. G. T. BUYER.- DEVICE FOR OONNEGTING BUNGHING ATTAGHMENT'SZTO MOWING' MACHINES.
Patented Sept. 28,1897.-
071mm B UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES T. BOYER, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR TO THE AMERI- CAN BUNCHER MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DEVICE FOR CONNECTING BUNCHING ATTACHMENTS TO MOWING-MACH INES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 590,565, dated September 28, 1897.
Application filed May 22, 1897. Serial No. 637,725. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES T. BOYER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Connecting Bunching Attachments to Mowing-Machines, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my said invention is to produce a simple, inexpensive, and easily-operated device by which the implements known as bunching attachments for mowing-machines .may be quickly, easily, and securely attached to such machines.
Said invention consists, briefly speaking, of a sheath-like structure adapted to be placed over the points of certain of the fingers on the cutter-bar, running thence back under said cutter-bar to the front bar of the bunching attachments, and there provided with a hook which engages with said last-named bar.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which are made a part hereof and on which similar letters of reference indicate similar parts, Figure 1 is a perspective view of such a bunching attachment as is above referred to and a portion of a mowing-machine to which it is attached, the principalattachment being effected by means of my present invention; Fig. 2, a sectional View through the cutter-bar alongside one of the fingers and attaching devices, showing the means of attachment between the parts more clearly; and Fig. 3, a perspective view of one of the attaching devices separately.
In said drawings the portions marked A represent the finger-bar of a mowing-machine; B, the ordinary fingers thereto; O, my improved attaching device, and D the front bar of the bunching attachment. All these parts (as well as the remainder of the machine refcrrcd to) except the'atta-ching device C are or may be of any usual or desired form and will not therefore be further described herein except incidentally in describing the invention.
The attaching device, as shown and before stated, is sheath-like in form and its forward end slips over and envelops the point of the finger B. Its shank, which is screw-threaded, passes to the rear and underneath the bar D of the bunching attachment, after which a hook C is slipped onto the same, coming against the rear side of the finger-bar A and of the bar D. A nut c is put in place and screwed up and the attachment is complete.
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
V l. The combination, with the finger-bar and fingers of a mowing-machine, and a bunching attachment adapted to be connected thereto, of an attaching device composed of a sheathlike structure adapted to slip over and engage the ends of the fingers on said finger-bar, and a hook adapted to be placed on the shank thereof and be there secured behind the finger-bar and the front bar of said bunching attachment, substantially as shown and described.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a device for connecting bunching attachments to mowing-machines, composed of a sheath-like structure adapted to fit over the fingers of the mowing-machine, and a hookadapted to engage and hold the front bar of the bunching attachment, substantially as set forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal at Indianapolis, Indiana, this 13th day of May, A. D. 1897.
