FISH KNIFE AND SCALERL SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 598,463, datedFebruary 1, 1898.

To all whom it may concern/.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM G. FOSTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at La Crosse, county of La Crosse, and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fish Knives and Sealers, of which the following is a specification.
The objects of my invention are to provide a cheap and convenient knife for cleaning Similar parts are referred to by similar letters throughout the drawings. 7
In the construction of my device I take a fiat sheet of metal B, cut, as shown in Fig. 2, with two flanges (Mt about one-half the length of the knife, which when bent with the edges toward each other form the handle. The flange a is a trifle wider than the flange a and which, being turned the whole length of the knife, the position at 0 being narrower, is raised to a vertical position and forms a back for the knife. This back is made witha sawedge. From the end of the saw-edge c it inclines to the point, but is not turned. It also is made with a saw-edge h. The blade A o .the opposite side has a knife-edge.
In the use of the knife when takenin the Serial No. 632,803. (No model.)
hand with the saw-edge 0 down is used as a scaler, the point I) being useful in scaling around the fins or places on the fish not reached by the sealer c. The knife-edge is used for cutting, the same as any other knife. It can also be made with the scaling-edge on .the other side of the blade to accommodate those who are accustomed to using the left hand. It will be noticed that as the blade A covers the sealer 0 when in use the scales are collected underneath and do not fiy away in the process of scraping.
In the construction of the knife I do not limit myself to the exact form of the teeth in the sealer as shown in the drawings, but reserve the right to adopt any other desirable structed of one piece of sheet metal cut withfianges one-half its length which having the edges turned toward eachother form the handle one side of the blade turned up to form the back of the knife and having asaw-edge thence tapering toward the point also with a V saw-edge, the opposite side of the blade having a knife-edge as and for the purpose above specified.
