To all whom it may concern.-

Be itknown that I, JOHN S. THOMAS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oambria, in the county of Montgomery and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in'Lamp-Reflectors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in lamp-reflectors, the object of the same being to provide a simple device of this character which may be attached to the chimney of an ordinary oil-lamp and by means of which all the rays of light will be concentrated and reflected down upon the desk or table upon which the lamp is located.

The invention consists in details of construction and arrangements of parts, which will be hereinafter more particularly set forth and claimed.

In the drawings forming part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a perspective View of a lamp with my improved reflector applied thereto. Fig. 2 is avertical longitudinal section through the same. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the reflector proper. Fig. 4 is a similar view of the detachable hood. Fig. 5 is a top plan view of the device as shown in Fig. 1; and Fig. 6 is a horizontal sectional view of the reflector proper, looking upwardly.

The lamp 1, to which my device is adapted to be applied, is of any suitable form and construction, the same being provided with a chimney 2, which is contracted at its upper and lower ends, as shown at 3 and i.

My improved device is made up of a reflector proper, 5, the same being constructed of sheet metal, with a concaved polished innersurface. The upper and lower ends thereof are cut away, as shown at 6 and '7, so that said reflector will fit around the chimney 2 and lie in close contact therewith. At the upper end of the reflector proper, 5, are secured two curved guiding and supporting wires 8 8, adapted to embrace the chimney 2 around the contracted portion 3 thereof, and adjacent to the point of connection of the wires 8 to the reflector proper is a supplemental wire 9, which serves to hold the re flector proper out from said chimney. At the lower end of the reflector 5 are similarlyshaped bracing and supporting wires 10 10, as clearly shown. The said wires 10 are adapted to embrace the chimney 2 around the lower contracted portion 4 thereof. At points near the upper end of the reflector 5 are formed openings 11 11., the same being located on opposite sides of the cut-away portion 6. Also, secured to the sides of the reflector 5 at points adjacent to the center thereof are loops 12 12, as clearly shown. The hood 13 is formed of sheet metal with a polished inner surface. 'It is slightly shorter than the reflector proper, 5, and the lower end thereof is slightly flaring. It is adapted to be connected to the reflector proper, 5,and when so connected both unitedly surround the upper end of the chimney 2. The upper edge of said hood has secured to it a wire 14:, with bent ends 15 thereon, which project through the openings 11 11 in the reflector proper, 5. The lower edge has also secured to it a wire 16, the ends of which project slightly beyond the edge of said hood and are adapted to fit within the loops 12 12, as clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings.

As thus constructed it will be seen that I have devised an extremely simple reflector for lamps, which may be readily applied to any lamp-chimney, the same being held in place on said chimney by means of the wires 88 and 10 10. With the hood 13 removed the reflector 5 may be utilized for concentrating the light of the lamp for any purpose; but with the hood in place, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, the light will be concentrated by both the reflector proper, 5, and said hood and thrown down upon the table or desk upon which the lamp 1 may be located.

Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-.-
