Description
UNITED STAT S PATENT OFFICE.
WINERIED" A. EoLKEE, OF BAYONNE, NEW JERSEY.
HASP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 595,923, dated December 21, 1897.
Application filed December 29, 1896. Serial No. 617,482. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WINFRIED A. RoLKEE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Bayonne, (Bergen Point,) county of Hudson, and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hasps, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to prevent hasp-hingeson doors from being pulled off or removed. 1
The invention consists in providing a hasphinge with a recessed pivot for the reception of a screw or part of the screws surface.
Figure 1 is a side view of the hasp and hasp-staple. Fig. 2 is a top view of Fig. 1 with the hasp opened, and Fig. 3 shows how the sides of the hasp may be bent at right angles.
A and A in the several figures represent a hasp formed in two sections, which are hinged by the pivot A A is the base of the hasp, having countersinks for the screws 0 C, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
B in the several figures is astaple which is riveted at B to the plate B, which is fastened to the door-jamb F by screws 0 In forming the oountersinks for the screwhead C part of the pivot A is cut away or recessed, so that the screw-head when set into the door F will fit into the recess (not shown) right angles, as shown in Fig. 3, to cover the base A.
It will be seen that when the hasp is closed, as in Fig. 1, it forms a shield over the screws 0 and 0 thus preventing them from being removed.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A hinged hasp, provided with free end or part- A, base A, recessed pivot A and screw 0, in combination with the plate B, and staple B, as and for the purpose described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of two witnesses, this 20th day of November, 1896.
WINFRIED A. E'o'LKEE.
Witnesses:
E. T. THOMAS, ALEXR. MELHADO.
