HANNAH E. EZEKIEL, on VNnw YORK, N. Y.
CYCLING-SKIRT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 594,864, dated December 7, 1897- Application filed September l, 1896. Serial No. 604,556. (N0 model.)
To all whom, t may concern.-
Be it known that I, HANNAH E. EZEKIEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bicycle-Skirts; and
I do hereby declare the following to be a full,
clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in apparel, and has more particular relation to ladies7 apparel intended for use in cycling.
The invention consists of certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts, all of which will be hereinafter more particularly set forth and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure l represents a perspective view of the skirt embodying my invention, the internal supporting-straps being shown in dotted lines; and Fig. 2 represents a central vertical section through said skirt.
A in the drawings represents the skirt. The skirt A may be of any ordinary material and construction, with the exception that the bottom of the same is entirely closed by a section of cloth d, similar to that of which the skirt proper is composed. Apertures ce are provided in this portion d for the passage of the riders limbs through the same. Each of these passages is bounded by a suitable elastic or garter d2, adapted to hold said portion d rmly in position about the knee of the rider. The fullness of the portion d is prevented from hanging down below the lower edge of the skirt by straps or tapes attached' to said portion a and the belt a4 of the skirt, respectively. The said portion a of the skirt is provided with a central opening d5, closed by a fly d and buttons aland elastic loops as. This opening is intended for sanitary purposes. The upper portion of the skirt is provided with the usual side openings a9, secured by buttons d10.
By my peculiar construction of the skirt the fullness of the same is pulled forward each time the riders foot moves forward and is thus prevented from becoming entangled in the wheel or any of the gearing of the machine, as is now sometimes the case with skirts in common use. By completely covering the open bottom of the vskirt the embarrassing blowing of the same is prevented, as the wind can'secure noy hold under the same.
Having now described my invention, what .I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a bicycleskirt, the combination with a skirt proper, of a cloth section inclosing the bottom of the same, and provided with apertures through which the riders limbs are adapted to pass and also an independent central Vaperture located between the two beforementioned apertures, a flap for covering said latter aperture and means for securing said iiap, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this vspecification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HANNAH E. EZEKIEL. Witnesses:
