UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PHILIP A. THURBER AND WILLIAM H. FRANKLIN, OF NORTH ATTLE- BOROUGH, MASSACHUSETTS.
AIR-G U N PROJ ECTI LE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 583,133, dated May 25, 1897.
Application filed October 0, 1896.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, PHILIP A. THURBER and WILLIAM H. FRANKLIN, citizens of the United States, residin g at North Attleborough, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Darts; and we do here-v by declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has reference to a novel construction in a dart; and it consists in the features of construction hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a dart constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section.
Referring now to said drawings, 1 indicates a center piece or pinof said dart, having at one end thereof a head 2. Upon said pin 1 is a sleeve, through the center of which the said pin passes and fits snugly, and is situated near the head 2. Secured between the end of the sleeve 3 and the head 2 are wings 4 to guide and steady the dart. The manner in Serial no. 008,050. (No model.)
way therein until the sleeve abuts against the said head 2, thereby holding the said wings in place and allowing them to project on both sides of said sleeve.
It is apparent that an exceedingly small and inexpensive dart is made in this manner which can be propelled with precision.
It will be understood, of course, that this dart can be used in connection with various guns and blowers, but is especially adapted for ordinary pea-blowers, to be used as a parlor-game by aiming at a suitable target.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A dart consisting of a cylindrical sleeve, a headed pin passing longitudinally through said sleeve and concentric therewith, and wings secured to the rear end of said sleeve by being situated between said headed pin and the end of the sleeve and held between these parts, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof we have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
PI'IILIP A. 'IHURBER. WILLIAM H. FRANKLIN.
