Vand exact description of the invention, such as UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEWIS D. KLAWANSKY, OF READING, PENNSYLVANIA.
SHIRT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 580,668, dated April 13, 189'?.
Application met August 27,1896.
To @ZZ whom t may concern.-
Beit known that I, LEwIs D. KLAwANsKY, a citizen of the United States, residing ,at Reading, in the county of Berks and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shirts; and l do hereby declare the following to be afull, clear,
will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in shirts, and is intended particularly as a yoke for shirts in which strength and comfort are the essential features.
The object of the invention is to produce a shirt that will be comfortable and easy under the arms and at the same time of increased strength at the points where it is exposed to strain.
rlhe invention is fully described in the following speciflcation and clearly shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of a complete shirt as cut with my improved yoke attached thereto. F ig. z is an elevation 0I the back ot the shirt after being folded, and Fig. 3 is a similar View of the front of the shirt. Fig. 4 is a separate view of the yoke.
The yokeA is made, preferably,in one piece and is provided, as usual, with an opening a for the neck. Projecting from the body of the yoke are four legs a', curved in such a manner that they will complete a circle around the armhole of the shirt. These legs are enlarged at their meeting ends a?. The
V-shaped ends A' of the body of the yoke project beyond these legs and extend downward over the shoulder, and at the front of the yoke on either side of the neck-opening a are provided projections b.
The shirt B is cut out and the yoke attached thereto, as shown in Fig. 1.
Serial No. 604,071. (No model.)
When the shirt is folded and sewed up, as shown in Figs. 2 and 8, the legs a. of the yoke will meet, and on account of their enlarged ends d2 they will allow an increased amount of room under the arm of the wearer. The V- shaped ends A will fall over the shoulder and greatly strengthen that point against tearing the sleeve out, as there will bea double thickness at that point. The projections b areadapted to come under the front of the collar and give additional room and strength thereto.
This yoke can be made in one piece, as shown, or the legs can be attached separately, but in either case the legs are enlarged at their meeting ends for giving more room under the arm and the yoke provided with the V- shaped ends A' and projections h.
Loops c are secured under the arms of the shirt, to which the Wristband can be buttoned when the sleeve is rolled up.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A shirt provided with a yoke A having a leg a projecting from each of its four corners, said legs having their ends a2 enlarged and adapted to form a semicircle around the armhole of a shirt, their enlarged ends a2 meeting under the arm and forming an enlargementjat said point, a V- shaped projection A at either end of said yoke adapted to cover the shoulder and extend some distance along the top of the sleeve, and projections b on either side of the neck-opening, all arranged substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LE WIS D. KLAVVANSKY.
