Description

j UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
DAVID R. MILLER, OF HARRISBRG, PENNSYLVANIA.
' IMPROVEMENT IN DUST AND SHAVING CONVEYERS FOR PLANING AND SAWING MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 58,456, dated October 2, 1866.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID R. MILLER, of Harrisburg, Dauphin county, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shaving-Conveyors for Planing or Surfacing Machines; and I do hereby declare that the following isafull, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and
to the letters of reference marked thereon.
In the'annexed drawings, A represents the conveyer, which consists of a box formed either ot' wood or ot' metal, the sides of said box being triangular, the front open, the back curved, and the end at the base oi' the triangular sides closed partially, leavin gan openin g, B, through which the shavings pass; from the conveyer. The lower or under side ot' the conveyer has y an extension, C, and aiiange., D. `The upper Figure 2 of the annexed drawings shows an' end view of the conveyer as attached to the planing-machine of Messrs. Grey and Vood, (pateuted,) the knives of said machine not being thereon shown. In` Fig. 3 a side View of the machine is shown with the conveyer attached, showing the manner of attachmentto the horizontal beam, and with the knives in the rear.
/Vithout the use of this conv'eyer the shavings fall directlyY upon the bed of the planer, and are a source of annoyance to the operator, while with the use of my invention the shavings are carried to one side.
, This conveyer may be ma-de with a straight back instead otl the curved 5 but the curved back is preferred by me.
It will thus be seen that the conveyer stands or lies in front of the knives in such aposition that the sha-vings, as they are out from the stuft', ily into it, strike its inclined and curved back, and are carried out through the opening B by the force with which they strike the `inclination of the back, and the aircurrent formed by the velocity ot the-knives as they revolve in cutting. I convey the shavings in this case only to one side. I may convey them to either side, or to both at a time, by a little different formation ofthe conveyer, which may be duplicated.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The conveyer A, made of metal or wood, provided with the hooks F F, flanges Q and D, with opening B, when constructed substantially as described, and used for the purposes herein Speciiied.
As evidence that I claim the foregoing I have hereuntoset `my hand in the presence ot' two witnesses.
DAVID It.. MILLER.
Witnesses: f J oEN A. HALLER, ANDREW SANTO.
