E. A. ROBINSON, OF WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE UNITED STATES BUTTON COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN BUTTONS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 57,260, dated August 14, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it Aknown that L E. A. ROBINSON, of Waterbury, New Haven count-y, State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Inlprovement in the Manufacture Of Buttons; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specitication.
The present invention relates to the mode of securing the eye or loop of the button, by which it is fastened to the garment, to its mold; and it consists in the use of a metallic or other suitable plate made of' a corresponding diameter, or nearly so, to that of the mold, the center of which plate is broken out, forming a ragged edge, flange, or lip, and the plate by this ange driven into the center opening` through the mold, in which the eye o1' loop is rst placed, thereby tightly and rmly securv ing such loop therein, from which it cann t possibly be withdrawn by the ordinary Wear or strain upon the button when in use.

the button by this loop being fastened to the garment desired; D, a metallic plate made of a diameter corresponding to that of the mold A, or nearly so, the central Vportion of which plate is broken out in any proper manner to form a ragged or broken edge or iiange or lip, E, which edge, to secure the loop in the mold, is placed in the opening a, thereof made in the center of the mold to receive the loop, and then driven therein in any proper manner, bringing the plate down and upon the mold and securely binding, fastening, and holding the loop to and in the mold, as is obvious, Without further explanation, and, furthermore, with so much strength that no ordinary wear or strain upon the button can loosen it.
