J. H. MoBRIDE INKSTAND.
Patnted Oct. 1896.
WITNESSES:
ATTORNEYS no, wnsmms PATENT F FICEo JOHN HARVEY MCBRIDE, OF TOPEKA, KANSAS.
INKSTAN D.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 568,865, dated October 6, 1896- Application filed March 10, 1896. Serial'No. 582,567. (No model.)
To all 2071,0777, it 777/! concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN HARVEY Mo- BRIDE, acitizen of the United States, and a resident of Topeka, in the county of Shawnee and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Inkstands, of which the following is a specification, reference beinghad to the accompanyingdrawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to supports for inkstands, and the object thereof is to provide a simple and effective holder orsupport of this class which is adapted to contain the inkstand, and which is also provided with a hinged or flexible back, and also with a hinged or flexible cover which is provided with a hinged or flexible calendar-support, which is also adapted to support the coverin a vertical position; and with this and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which- Figure 1 is a front view of my improved inkstand-holder with the cover raised; Fig. 2,.a central vertical section thereof, showing the ink stand or bottle in full lines; Fig. 3, a plan view showing the back and cover open, and Fig. 4 a section thereof on the lined 4.
In the drawings forming part of this specification, A represents an ordinary ink-bottle, and in the practice of my invention I provide a holder therefor which is preferably composed of cardboard, but which may be composed of any desired material, and said holder consists of a box or casing B, into which the ink-bottle is inserted, the back of said box or casing being open and the top thereof being provided with a circular opening b, through which the neck of the inkbottle projects, and the neck of said ink-bottle being provided with an annular bead or shoulder a.
The front of the box orcasing B is preferably inclined, as shown at 19 and the bottom D thereof is extended, as shown at d, and said bottom is adapted to be folded at cl and 61 so as to form a back for the box or casing B and the top or cover'd which is provided with side and top flanges d and d respectively.
Secured transversely of the bottom portion d is a strip of cardboard or other material G, which is adapted to be folded at g, so as to form a horizontal plate or cover g*, in which is formed an aperture or opening g which is adapted to be passed over the neck of the bottle and the annular bead Cb formed thereon, as shown in Fig. 2, and when these parts are folded together, as shown in said figure, said plate or cover 9 will hold the back in position.
Secured to the inner side or surface of the top or cover (F, or to the back (1 is a strip or plate H, of cardboard or similar material,
which is adapted to be folded at h, and the upper portion thereof is adapted to be bent downwardly, and is provided with a strip of material similar thereto, which is connected therewith at 7L2 and bent backwardly, and in the central portion of which is formed a circular notch or recess 7L3, which is adapted to fit around the neck of the ink-bottle, on the side thereof adjacent to the back of the box or casing, when said strip is folded, as shown in Figs. 2 and 4, and the inclined portion 72 of the strip or plate H is adapted to receive a calendar, which is placed thereon orsecured thereto in any desired manner.
It will thus be seen that the inclined portion 7L4 supports the top or cover (1 in a vertical position, and the calender thereon will always be in plain view, and said calendar may be folded Within the top or cover whenever desired, and the latter may be lowered over the ink stand or bottle.
My improved holder for ink stands or bottles may be made of any desirable material and the separate parts thereof connected in any desired manner, and in practice I form upon the sides of the back portion D thereof wings or plates K, which may be secured to the sides of the box or'casing B, if desired.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The herein-described box or casing for ink stands or bottles, said box or casing being provided with an open back and with a hole or aperture in the top thereof, through which the neck of the bottle projects, and the bottom of the box or casing being-projected and adapted to be folded to form a hack for said box or casing, and also to form a top or cover therefor, and said back portion being" provided with a strip or plate which is secured thereto, and adapted to be folded over the top of the box or casing and which is provided with an aperture or opening through which the neck of the bottle projects, substantially as shown and described.
2. The herein-described box or casing for ink stands or bottles, said box or casing being provided with an open back and with a hole or aperture in the top thereof, through which the neck of the bottle projects, and the bottom of the box or easing being projected and adapted to be folded to form a back for said box or casing, and also to form atop or cover therefor, and said back portion beingprovided with a strip or plate which is secured thereto, and adapted to be folded over the top of the box or casing, and which is provided with an aperture or opening through which the neck of the bottle projects, and the. top or cover being provided with a strip or plate which is secured tothe inner surface thereof, and which is adapted to be folded so as to form a brace or support for the top or cover, and to hold it in a vertical position, said part or support being adapted to havea calendar secured thereto, substantially as shown and described.
3. The herein-described box or casingr for ink stands or bottles, said box or casing being provided with an open back and with a hole or aperture in the top thereof, through which the neck of the bottle projects, and the bottom of the box or casing being projected and adapted to be folded to form a back for said box or casing, and also to form a top or cover therefor, and said back portion being provided with a strip or plate which is secured thereto, and adapted to be folded over the top of the box or casing, and which is prO- vided with an aperture or opening through which the neck of the bottle projects, and the top or cover being provided with a strip or plate which is secured to the inner-surface thereof, and which is adapted to be folded so as to form a brace or support for the top 01' cover, and to hold it. in a vertical position, said parts or support being adapted to have a calendar secured thereto, and said top or cover being provided with sides and front flanges substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as inyinvention I have signed inynatne, in pres once of the subscribing witnesses, this 29th day of I ebruary, 18516.
JOHN HARVEY MCBRIDE.
