ALBERT ED\VARD NICKLIN, OF ACTON, CANADA.
BRAKEIVIANS MOCCASIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 566,407, dated August 25, 1896. Application filed December 9, 1895. Serial No. 571,581. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that LALBERT EDWARD NICK- LIN, manufacturer, a citizen of the Dominion of Canada, and a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at the town of Acton, in the county of Halton and Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brakemens Moccasins, of which the following is a specification.
Reference is made to the accompanying drawings, showing in Figure 1 the side elevation of the article embodying my invention, and in Fig. 2 a cross-section through the ball portion of the shoe.
My invention consists of a brakemans shoe or moccasin provided with a Waterproof rubber sole-cover, secured to and extending up the sides of the sole or bottom of the moccasin, and having a solid rubber-tap sole and heel cemented thereto, as set forth in the claim.
The inner part of the moccasin, that part which comes in contact with the foot, is composed of one piece of leather pressed into shape (the ordinary moccasin) with the rubber attached to the outside of the leather at the bottom and extending up from the sole about one-half of an inch, thus protecting the leather from moisture and keeping the foot always perfectly dry. The upper part of the moccasin to which the rubber is attached on tends to the line marked A in the accompanying drawin gs,and the rubber extends to the line marked B in the accompanying drawings, the bottom of the shoe or moccasin being composed of leather with the covering of rubber,
the object of the invention being to produce a shoe or moccasin that will not slip and will be warm, light, comfortable, and Waterproof. The second part of the invention is the solid rubber sole and solid rubber heel in combination With the rubber covering attached to the leather bottom of the moccasin, which combination makes the moccasin as comfortable for common use as the ordinary shoe and much more comfortable than the ordinaryslipheel moccasin, while it will at the same time answer the purpose of a Waterproof-boot.
I lay no claim to the moccasin. It is only the combination of the rubber sole, heel, and facings attached to the leather moccasin that I claim as my invention.
I claim A brakemans shoe comprising an upper, a sole having its edges turned upward and stitched tothe upper, a soft rubber sole-cover secured to the leather sole, with its edges extending upward around said sole, and a solid rubber-tap sole and heel cemented to the under surface of the sole-cover, and forming a frictional tread-surface for the shoe, substantially as described.
