JAMES H. I-IOLLEN, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
lVIUClLAGE-BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 558,607, dated April 21, 1896. Application filed August 24, 1895. Serial No. 560,330. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, JAMES H. HoLLEN, of Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mucilage- Bottles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form apart of this specification.
This invention relates to appliances for using gum or mucilage, in combination with a receptacle for holding the same. It is fully explained and illustrated in this specification and the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 represents a vertical section down through the bottle for holding the mucilage, the cap, brush, and other parts. Fig. 2 is a top View of the cap that fastens on the top of the bottle. Fig. 3 shows the under side of the cap. Fig. 4 represents the blank for the cap.
A represents the bottle that contains the mucilage. C is the brush. oz is a cap to go on the top of the bottle. It is struck out of sheet metal in the shape seen in Fig. 4, with the middle cut out, as there shown. Then the tongue (1 is bent down at an angle to form a scraper cl, Fig. 1, and the ears 6 e are bent down at right angles to the top to form side supports for the cam-lever I). (See Fig. a.) The portions it, between the gaps in the outer edge of the blank, are curved over to make a flange to catch over the half-bead on the upper corner of the neck of the bottle and hold the cap firmly on the bottle. A cam-lever c is hung on a wire 8, passing through it and the ears 6 6, so as to swing freely, and the outer end is made heavy enough to throw the inner end against the scraper d.
A collar D, of wood or other suitable material, has a hole made through its center large enough for the handle of the brush to pass through, and a downwardly-projecting collar r is made around the lower edge of the hole in the collar to receive the upper end of an elastic rubber tube h, the lower end of the tube being made fast around the brush. A
projection 0 is made on the handle of the brush above where the tube h is attached enough larger than the hole in the collar D so as to catch on the edge of the collar 0" and raise the collar D with the brush whenever that is taken out. i I
The mode of using the apparatus is as fol-- lows The cap is sprung on the top of the bottle containing the mucilage, and the brush with the collar on it and the rubber tube in place, as described, is inserted between the scraper and the cam until the collar rests on the cap.
The lower end of the brush is held up out of the two will take ofi the surplus mucilage,
leaving only enough on the brush for use.
Having thus described my improvements, I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination with a bottle, of a cap having a spring-flange to catch under the bead on the upper end of the neck of the bottle, and a scraper formed of a portion of the metal in the center of the cap, and a cam held by pivots in cars also formed of the metal in the center of the cap, with a brush, substantially as described.
2. The combination with a bottle, of a cap having a spring-flange to catch under the bead on the upper end of the neck of the bottle, and a scraper form ed of a portion of the metal in the center of the cap, and a cam held by pivots in cars also formed of the metal in the center of the cap, with a brush having a loose collar thereon and a piece of elastic tubing fast on a flange on said collar and extending down to the brush and made fast thereto, substantially as described.
