Description

PARK PLACE PATENT OEEICE.
ALEXANDER HAMILL, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
IMPROYED RAILWAY-CHAIR.
Speciication forming part of Letters Patent No. 55,650, dated June 19, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER HAMILL, ofthe city otBaltimore and State of Maryland, have invented new and useful Improvements in Railway-Chairs; and I do hereby declare the following to be an exact description thereot', reference being' had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters ot'ret'erence marked thereon, making a part ot' this specih'cation.
The nature ot' my invention eonsistsn the chair being' hinged at the sides and a key-bolt holding' it trmly to the cross-tie. f
Figure l represents a top view; Fig. 2, a side view.
A represents a Trail; B, the cross-ties; O, the sides of the chair that brace the rail, having two apertures, D, through which screw-bolts are inserted and nutted, the bolts passing through slots in the rail, so as to conformmith the expansion and contraction of the rail. Thev bottom of the chair is fastened trmly to the cross-tie by bolts F, extending through the vcross-tie, with a fiat bar-head, G', below and a key, H, above; or the chair may have side iianges, J, extending down on each side ofthe cross-tie and fastened by a key or bolt, K, below, as I deem most convenient.
The ends L ot' the chair are hinged, so that the chair can be easily replaced, and the rail firmly braced or easily and quickly replaced, without delay.
I do not claim the downward-projecting flanges; neither do I claim attaching hinged jaws to the rail; but
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The construction of the chair with its hinge L at the outside end, when arranged and fastened .tothe cross-tie B by a bolt, F, with a hat banhead, G', below and a forked key, H, above, substantially as herein described, and for the purposes set forth.
ALEXANDER HAMILL.
