SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 554,787, dated February 18, 1896.

Beit known that we, HIRAMR. MYERS, SAM- UEL E. MYERS, and LORENZO D. CARL, citizens of the United States, residing at Lake, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Marsh-Horseshoes; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing the shoe properly attached to the hoof. Fig. 2 is a view showing the heel end of the shoe, and illustrating the same properly placed upon the hoof. Fig. 3 is a top view of the shoe, showing the sections brought together. Fig. 4 is a perspective View of the shoe, showing the sections parted. Fig. 5 is a section through line a: 00, Fig. 3, except that the shoe is placed upon the hoof. Fig. 6 is a view showing the inner ends of the center plates.

The present invention has relation to in arshhorseshoes; and it consists in the different parts, and combination of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawlngs.

In the accompanying drawings, A and A represent the hinged sections of the marshshoe proper, and are formed of a width to carry out the object hereinafter described. The toe ends of the sections A and A are hinged together by means of the rivet a or its equivalent, and for the purpose of adding strength to the shoe proper the lip b is provided, which lip is preferably formed integral with the section A. To the hinged sections A and A are attached or formed integral therewith the flanges B, which flanges extend upward and are bent or curved inward, so that they will properly embrace the hoof of the horse and at the same time conform substantially with the form of the hoof.

For the purpose of strengthening the shoe 7 the center plates 0 and O are provided, and

are located substantially as illustrated in the drawings, and for the purpose of connecting when the sections are placed in position to fit the hoof the plate O is provided with the tenon c, and the plate 0 is provided with the recess cl, which recess receives the tenon c, as illustrated in Fig. 5.

For the purpose of properly connecting the heel ends of the sections A and A together, the section A is provided with the recess d and the section A is provided with tenon e, which tenon is received into the recess when the sections are brought into proper position to secure the shoe to the hoof.

For the purpose of assisting in holding the sections A and A in proper position with reference to each other, the extensions or lips f are provided and are preferably formed integral with the section A. The heel ends of the sections A and A are held or bound together by means of the clamping-bolt D,which bolt is passed through the flanges B, as shown in the drawings, and for the purpose of preventing the'flanges B from being drawn too close together, or in other words, to be placed in position to injure the hoof, the thimble E is provided and is located upon the bolt D, said thimble being so adjusted as to length that the shoe proper will properly fit the hoof when the bolt D is properly tightened, the length of the thimble corresponding with the size of the horses hoof.

It will be understood that our shoe can be attached to the feet of ahorse having common iron shoes, and for the purpose of providing room for the toe and heel calks the spaces g and g are provided and are located substantially as illustrated in Fig. 3.

The hinged sections A and A are each formed of such a width that they will prevent the horse from sinking its feet into marshy ground and at the same time are so arranged that the shoe proper can be easily and quickly removed and attached.

Having fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

the inner ends of the center plates together and means for securing the heel ends of the sections together, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

The combination of the hinged sections A and A provided with the inwardly bent or curved flanges B, the center plates G and C formed upon the hinged sections, the clamping-bolt D, passed through the flanges B, and havin g located thereon between the flanges B, the thilnble E, the tenon 6 located upon the section A, the recess (1 formed in the section 1 A, and the toe and heel openings 9 and g", substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
