ROBERT J. GILLHAM AND ELLIOTT'P. WEST, OF ORLANDO, FLORIDA.
eAs or; on. BURNER HEATER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 541,739, dated June 25, 1895.
Application filed October 30, 1894.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, ROBERT J. ,GILLHAM and ELLIOTT P. WEST, citizens of the United States, residing at Orlando, in the county of Orange and State of Florida, have invented or Oil Burner Heaters; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in combination heaters for use either on oil lamp burners or gas jets, and the aim is to produce a metallic chimneyshaped device, which is designed to lit on the burner, as ordinary glass chimneys are secured thereto, or it may be held to a gas jet by means of first slipping over the jet a cap designed to hold the chimney-shaped device, and then lowering the water heater therein where it is suspended by means of the handles of the water receptacle, hooking over the edges of the support. By this construction, it will be seen that when the water receptacle is lowered into the metallic chimney heater, the blaze will be divided, and uniformly distribute the heat on all sides.
To these ends and to such others as the invention may pertain, the same consists further in the novel construction, combination and adaptation of the parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, and then specifi- We clearly illustrate our invention in the accompanying drawings, which with the letters of reference marked thereon form a part of this specification, in which drawings Figure 1 is a central sectional view through the heater as applied to an oil-burner. Fig.
2 is a similar View of the device as applied to Serial. n5. 527,450. (No model.)
a gas-jetyFig. 3, a detail view of the capholder which is used when the heater is used in connection with-gas-jets- Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the burner of an ordinary oil lamp, and B the metallic chimney-shaped device which fits over the burner and is designed to hold the water holding receptacle 0 which sets down therein, and it has its lower end contracted as seen at 0,- so as to leave a sufficient space between its side and the inner surface of the heater holder, to allow the heat to pass up between the two. The handles D are secured to the upper edge of the water receptacle, and are bent down as seen at E, forming a hook, which is utilized in suspending the dish.
When it is is desired to use the heater in connection with a gas jet, the cap F is slipped over the jet, and the receptacle holder is set down in the perforated cup G which is secured to the gas jet cap.,
It will thus be seen that the heater may be readily and easily applied to either oil lamps or gas jets, as may be desired.
The hooks h integral with the side of the water receptacle serve also as supports in connection with thehandles D.
What we claim is In combination with a gas jet, a cup G having a perforated bottom, the holderBcarried therein, and the receptacle 0 having handles D with hooked portions E adapted to engage over the upper edge of the said holder, and the hooks h, all substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof we afifix .our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
.ROBT. J. GILLHAM. ELLIOTT P. WEST.
