INVENTOR ATTORNEYS ANDREW BJSRAHAM. PNDTOMTHQWASNIN GTOMECv NITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
ALFRED GARTNER, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO CHARLES H. MCINTIRE, OF SAME PLACE.
FUSE-CONNECTOR.
SEIECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 546,957, dated September 24, 1895.
Application filed July 25, 1895.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, ALFRED GAR'lNER, a citizen of the United States, residingin Newark, county of Essex, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Terminals or Fuse-Connectors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others to skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The object of my present invention is to provide terminals for fuse connections of simple, strong, and durable construction, reliable in operation, not liable to get out of order, and easily manufactured and handled.
The invention consists in the improved terminal, its auxiliary fuse-clamping loops, and 1n the combination and arrangement of the various parts thereof, substantially as will be hereinafter more fully described, and finally as embodied in the clauses of the claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each of the several views,
Figures 1 to 6, inclusive, illustrate in plan 0 view fuses provided with my improved terminals, various forms of the latter being shown; and Figs. 1 to 6 inclusive, represent sectional views on the line macof their respective figures, the fuses not being shown.
In said drawings, a represents a plate having a central raised portion b forming a spring-loop for the reception of the fuse e. Integral with said plate are the projecting fingers 01, forming a slot through which a o screw is adapted to pass, and by means of which the terminals are secured to the fuseblock in the same manner as in ordinary terminal connections, (the fuse-block and screws not being shown in the drawings.)
On one or both sides of the plate a and integral therewith is arranged a plate 0, bent parallel to and under the side sections of said Serial No. 557,115. (No model.)
plate a, and extending, as in Figs. 1 to 3, inclusive, to about the center line of the springloop Z).
In Fig. 4 the plate 0 is arranged only on one side of plate a and extends to about the other side of the latter, as clearly shown.
In Figs. 5 and 6 the spring-loop b is arranged as traversing the plate a, and the plate 0 provided with fingers d and extending under the said plate a and its fingers d, respectively. As can be seen from the various figures of the drawings, the said projecting plates 0 are either bent short, as in Figs. 1, at, and 6, or they are bent to form an auxiliary spring-loop c (or c and 0 for the reception of an auxiliary fuse e, (or e and at) as in Figs. 2, 3, and 5.
By the arrangement of the plates 0 (lapped under the plates at) additional surface or metal is given to the terminals, and thus their resistance is reduced to a minimum.
As there is a certain amount of spring in the loop b on account of its being struck from the plate a, fuses slightly varying in diameter can easily be inserted in said loop, and yet will have a perfect contact with the terminal. The same refers to the spring-loops c and 0 which have the additional advantage that auxiliary fuses can be inserted in said loops, and thus the same-sized terminal may be used for heavier currents without the necessity of increasing the diameter of the central fuse 6.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. Aterminal consisting of aplate provided with a central raised portion forming a spring loop, said loop projecting from one side of said plate and perpendicular thereto, and of an extension integral with and lapped under said plate, substantially as and for the purposes described.
2. A terminal consisting of a plate provided with projecting fingers forming a slot, a spring loop centrally arranged on and by said plate and projecting perpendicular from one side thereof, and of an extension projecting from and lapped under said plate, substantially as and for the purposes described.
3. A terminal consisting of a plate provided with acentral raisedportion forming a spring loop, and of an extension on each side and lapped under said plate, each of said extensions forming an auxiliary spring loop, substantially as and for the purposes described.
i. A terminal consisting of a plate provided with projecting fingers, a spring loop centrally arranged on and formed by said plate, and of an extension on each side and lapped under said plate, each of said extensions forming an auxiliary spring loop, substantially as and for the purposes described.
5. A terminal consisting of a plate provided With a central raised portion forming a spring" loop and of a series of auxiliary spring loops ALFRED GARTN ER.
