To all whom it may concern.-

and useful Improvements in Ohicken-Vermin Preventers and Destroyers, of which the following is a specification.

The object of this invention is to automatically sprinkle insect-powder upon fowls as they pass through the opening forming an entrance to the coop or fowl-house.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an isometrical representation of a device for carrying outmy improvements. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the upper portion of my device.

From the base-board 1 rise uprights 2, connected at their upper ends by a cross-bar 3. This cross-bar is provided with a vertical opening, and a cup-shaped socket 4. is secured to its upper face.

Between the upright near their lower ends is located a platform 5, and above the crossbar is located a bar 6, which has a connection with the platform by the vertical rods 7, which pass through the crass-bar. A powdermagazine is located in the cup-shaped socket 4, its smaller end downward. This magazine is composed of the body portion 8, having its lower section tapering and provided with an opening 9. A cup 10 is placed over the body portion and is provided with a cap or stopper 11, to which is connected a needle 12, extending in the lengthwise direction of the magazine. A spring 13 is seated in the body portion and rests against the under side of the cover at one end, its other end resting upon a brace extending transversely of the magazine. This magazine is seated in the cup-shaped socket, and the bar 6 is placed on top of the cover or stopper 11, when it will appear as shown in the drawings.

This device is placed in the doorway leading from the coop or fowl-house. The fowls when passing in or out will step upon the platform, which will yield, causing the con1- pression of the flexible upper portion of the cover, thereby forcinga portion of the insectpowder contained in the reservoir out at its lower open end upon the back of the fowl, and when the fowl has passed through the opening the spring 13, located within the magazine, will cause the platform to be elevated. v

The powder will be discharged each time the platform is depressed. The needle in the compression of the cover portion of the magazine will be depressed, its lower end passing through the discharge-opening of the magazine, thereby keeping the opening clear and prevent the packing of the powder in the magazine.

By sprinkling the insect-powder upon the back of a fowl it will gradually work in between the feathers, thereby killing the insects or compelling them to leave the fowl.

In some seasons of theyear it may not be necessary to use the powder, and the magazine can be removed bodily and the platform will rest upon the base-board.

I claim as my invention 1. An insect powder distributor consisting of a powder magazine having a flexible upper portion, a platform, and a connection between the magazine and platform whereby the depression of the platform automatically discharges powder from the magazine.

2. An insect powder distributer consisting of a powder magazine having a flexible upper portion, a platform, a connection between the magazine and platform, and a needle located within the magazine and movable in unisonwith the platform.
