IMPROVED COMPOSITION FOR COATING VESSELS FOR PETROLEUM, dc.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 53,280, dated March 20, 1866; antedatcd March 6, 1866.
and exact description of the composition and manner of making the compound aforesaid.
Take of common glue, one pound; sorghummg l asses, onehalf pint; beeswax, one ounce;
resin, one ounce. Put the glue in a suitable vessel of convenient size and place the latter in an outer vessel of water and boil, in the ordinary way of boiling glue, for two hours. Then add the molasses and sufficient water therewith "So give the whole about the consistency of cream, and boil for two hours more. Finally, add the beeswax and resin and continue the I boiling from two to three hours, and the process of making will be complete.
In order to use the compound, heat it boiling hot in a vessel immersed in water, and while in the fluid state pour it in considerable quantities (two or three gallons) into the cask to be lined, and, having taken care by revolving the cask or otherwise to secure a complete coating throughout, pour off the surplus. The cask is then ready to receive the oil.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A compound, and the manufacture of the same, composed substantially of the ingredients before mentioned, and its application to the interior surfaces of barrels and other casks designed to be used for holding the hydrocarbon oils.
