To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, J OHN ALBRECHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Massillon, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Rail Chair and Tie; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure 1, is a side View of a tie, showing the, rails in cross section, and the different parts placed in proper position to secure the rails. Fig. 2, is a top view of the tie, showing the rails properly secured. Fig. 3, is an end View of the tie, showing the position of the key or wedge. Fig. 4.-, is a detached view of one of the inner rail securing dogs. Fig. 5, is a transverse section of the tie, showing a longitudinal section of the rail, and a .vertical section of the inner locking dog. Fig. 6, is a view showing a portion of a tie, and illustrating one of the top openings or slots. Fig. 7, is a horizontal section of one end of the tie and a vertical section of the locking dogs and key or Wedge. Fig. 8, is a detached view of one of the rail locking dogs designed to be located upon the outer side of the rail.

The present invention has relation to a combined rail chair and tie, and it consists in the diiferent parts and combination of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

which notches or recesses are for the purpose of receiving the inner Webs or flanges of the railway rails b, and for the'purpose of properly holding the railway rails, said notches or recesses c, are formed to correspond substantially with the form of the Webs of the railway rails. l

For the purpose of preventing the dogs B from moving upward after they have been placed in proper position with reference to the tie and the railway rails, the shoulders 01 are provided, which shoulders are located upon the sides, and one edge of the dog B.

which flanges may be located as illustrated, or if desired they may be extended to the bottom or lower ends of the dogs, inasmuch as the same object can be accomplished in either event.

The outer locking dogs G are substantially 0f the form shown, in Fig. 8, and as shown they areprovided with the flanges e, and the notches or recesses f, the notches 0r recesses f being for the purpose of receiving the webs of the railway rails, and the shoulders or flanges e are for the purpose of preventing any upward movement of the dogs 0. I In use the dogs B are set into the tie A, through the opening a after which said dogs are moved or slipped toward the inner ends of the slot 0. until' the shoulders at come under the top plate of the tie, after which the rails 19 are placed in proper position, after which the dogs 0, are placed through the openings a, and moved toward the rails 12, until they come in proper contact with said rails and the shouldersor flanges 6 come under the slot a. The key or wedge D is driven through the opening a thereby securely binding the railway rails. For the purpose of assisting in holding the bottom or lower ends of the dogs B and C, the flanges g are provided, which flanges abut against the inner faces of the dogs B.

For the purpose of preventing the key or Wedge D, from becoming loose the screwthreaded bolt .h is provided, which screwthreaded .bolt is passed through. a screwthreaded aperture formed in the key or wedge D.

For the purpose of providing a means for placing the screw-threaded bolt h in proper position, a wrench, such as It is provided, which wrench is entered at the ends of the tie, and rotated with the screw-threaded bolt it, until said screw-threaded bolt is brought into proper position to secure the key or wedge D.

It will be understood that the top or upper ends of the dogs B and 0, should be so formed that they will properly clamp the tread flanges of the rails, or in other words will come under the bottom or under side of the tread flanges and against the vertical webs of the rails.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The combination of the. railway tie A formed hollow and provided with the slots (1 and the openings on the looking dogs 13 provided with the notches or recesses c and the shoulders oi, the locking dogs 0 provided with the recesses f and the shoulders or flanges e,

and the key or wedge D, subtantially as and for the purpose specified.

2. The combination of the tie A, provided with slots and openings formed in the top of the tie, the locking dogs provided with shoulders or flanges and recesses and keys or Wedges provided with screw-threaded bolts, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

3. The combination of a hollow tie having located through the top of said tie, locking dogs provided with notches or recesses c and f, and shoulders 01 and e, the locking dogs 0 provided with the flanges g, and the keys 1), substantially as and for the purpose specified.
