Description

(N0 Modem s. FREE."
GLOVE HOLDER.
No. 532,319. Patented Jan. 8,1895.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
- STANLEY FREE, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO WILLIAM SPITTLER, OF SAME PLACE.
GLOVE-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 532,319, dated January 8, 1895.
Application filed March 5,1894. Serial No. 502.3 N model To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, STANLEY FREE, of New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Oonnecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Glove-Holders; and I do hereby deelare the following, when taken in connection with accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in
Figure 1, a plan view of the glove-holder; Fig. 2, a section on line w-a; of Fig. 1; Figs. 3 and 4, modifications illustrating variations in the attachment of the strips to the strap.
This invention relates to an improvement in glove-holders and is an improvement on the invention patentedto me October 3, 1893, No. 506,038.
In the patent above referred to, the holder was made from a single piece of material, and when applied to varying thicknesses of packages, did not accommodate itself to such variations. A
The object of this invention is to still unite the two strips, and at the same time provide an adjustable connection between them, so that as gloves are removed from the package, the wrappers will accommodate themselves to the diminished thickness, and always present a uniform appearance, and the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
As preferably constructed, a strip A, is constructed with a strap B, extending from one side, and in the strap B, are transverse slots 0. a. The second strip 0, is provided with oppositely turned hooks b b, which pass through slots a a, and engage with the face of the strap B, and seas to unite the strip 0 to the said strap. By this construction, when the package is full, say containing a dozen pair of gloves, the hooks will stand at the outer end of the grooves,-as shown in Fig. 1, but when several pairs have been removed, the strip 0 may be moved toward the strip A, so that the hooks will stand nearer the opposite ends of the slots, and as shown in broken lines Fig. 1. The face of the strap at the edge of the slot may be numbered from 1 to 12, so that the end of the hook acting as a pointer will indicate the number of pairs of glovesin the package. The outer end of the strap B is secured to the strip A, by any suitable means, herein shown by a cord and button, but it is apparent that various forms of fastenings may be employed, and do not need further description or illustration. The hooks b b are preferably formed from a single strip of metal, and united to the strip 0, by an eyelet, and as shown in Fig. 2.
Instead of uniting the strip 0 to the strap B, the strap may be formed as an integral part of the strip 0, and the strip A connected to it in the manner above described, and as 6 shown in Fig. 3, giving the same result; or, if preferred, both strips may be united to the strap so as to have sliding connection therewith, and as indicated in Fig. 4, but the construction shown in Fig. 1 is the preferred one, 0 as it leaves the strip A free for advertising purposes.
Instead of arranging the hooks b b to extend through slots at a, the hooks may extend over the edges of the strap, as indicated in broken lines Fig. 1.
I am aware that a holder consisting of a strap having a strip applied at one end and with a second strip adjustably secured on the said strap, is old, and therefore do not wish to be understood as claiming such a construction broadly.
I claim- 1. Theherein described glove-holder consisting of a strip. constructed with a strap ex- I tending from one side, said strap provided 2 with longitudinal slots, and a strip connected to said strap by hooks extending through the said slots, substantially as described.
2. The herein described glove-holder consisting of a strip constructed with a strap extending from one side, said strap provided with longitudinal slots, a second strip connected to said strap by hooks extending through the said slots, and indicating figures 5 applied to said strap, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in'the presence oftwo subscribing witnesses.
