To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MIKE COLLINS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sulphur Springs, in the county of Benton and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scrapers or Excavators; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

The special object of the invention is to make a scraper or excavator simple, durable and not easily got out of order.

Figure 1 of the drawings is a plan View of my self-loading, two-wheeled scraper or excavator; Fig. 2,a longitudinal vertical section thereof.

In the drawings, A represents the cart-frame pivoted on an axle B on which rotate the wheels 0 O.

D is the cart-body pivoted near its upper rear corners on the axle B and just within the frame A, the bottom being provided in front with the scraper E.

F F are upwardly turned hooks attached to the sides and near the front end of the body D, the same having a series of opposite holes e e in any registering two of which may be secured the screwbolt f held by a nut f. These screwbolts, in whatsoever holes placed, rest on the sides of body D and thereby regulate the depth of cut of the scraper E; At the bottom of the rear end of the body, I hinge the end-gate G which may be closed by a cord ora chain g with its upper end attached to any convenient point, while it is automatically locked or fastened by the lever latch II fulcrumed on the top of body D. The latch H has a laterally and upwardly projecting arm in by which it may be disengaged by hand or otherwise.

I is a curved rack attached longitudinally to the top of body D and J a ratchet-bar or detent pivoted thereto, to engage automatically the crossplate a, on the rear of frame A, so as to'hold the body D at any point to which it may have been elevated.

K is a lever to which is pivoted the bail 7e which works in the teeth of the rack Lsaid teeth inclining toward the front. This lever is fnlcrumed on a cross-rod L on which may be used the set-nuts M M to prevent any lateral movement of the lever.

In order to empty the earth which accumulates in the body D,the driverpulls back the lever K'so as to raise the front and lower the rear end of the body, when the pivoted rackbar .I automatically engages plate a to hold it. The lever can then be made to take one or more new holds upon the rack I until the body D is tilted to the desired extent. By lifting the detent J, the body drops back into its original position so that the operation of scraping or excavating may proceed.- With this scraper, no stoppage of the team is necessary in order to unload or in preparing to load up after a discharge.

Having thus described all that is necessary to afull understandingof myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is

1. A two-wheeled scraper or excavator with a body pivoted to the axle at its rear upper corners just within the frame A and provided with pins adjustable in hooks at the front end of each side as and for the purpose set forth.

2. In two-wheeled scrapers or excavators, a rear-pivoted body with a bottom-pivoted endgate and a pivoted latch-lever as and for the purpose described.

3. The rear-pivoted body of a scraper or excavator carrying on top a stationary ratchet and pivoted rack-bar whose subjacent teeth form a detent, in combination with the lever K carrying the pivoted bail 7s and the rear crossplate a of the frame A; as and for the purpose set forth.
