Description

(No Model.)
J. A. L. GIST. "WEIGHT FOR PLOWBEAMSK N 531,027, w Patented Dec. 18, 1894.
" UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFIQE.
JOHN A. LOGAN GIST, OF CURIA, ARKANSAS.
WEIGHT FOR PLOW-BEAMS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 531,027, dated December 18, 1894. Application filedIebruar-y 27,1893. Renewed October 15, 1894. Serial No. 6215.997. (No model.)
To all whom it mayconcerm' Be it known that I, JOHN A. LOGAN GIST, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ouria, in the county of Independence and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful'lmprovements inWeights forPlow-Beams; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in plows, and it has for its object to provide in connection with the plow-beam, a weight which may be readily and quickly moved to any desired point upon the beam, and secured in said adjusted position 5 thereby serving to regulate the position, or angle of inclination of the beam and properly adjusting the depth of cut of the plow.
To this end and to such others as the invention may pertain, the same consists in the novel construction, and in the combination of parts, all as more fully hereinafter de-' scribed, shown in-the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a plow with my adjustable weight shown as applied to the extreme end of the beam. Fig. 2, is an enlarged detail in perspective of a portion of the plow-beam, with my weight shown as moved a short distance from the end of the beam.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter A designates the plow, B its beam, 0 the standard, and D, D the handles, all of ordinary construction.
E represents my adjustable weight, which is preferably made of lead, or other heavy metal. It is in the form of a single casting, and is provided with a central longitudinal opening, to receive the plow-beam, upon which it is loosely sleeved, as shown in the drawings, and is adapted to be secured at any desired point thereon by means of set-screws E, provided for the purpose.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination with a plow beam, of a weight in the form of a single rectangular hollow casting loosely sleeved upon said plowbeam forward of the plow, and set-screws passed through said weight and into engagement with the beam to hold said weight in its adjusted position, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN A. LOGAN GIST.
