Description
(No Model.)
P. A. GUENOT. BUILDING BLOCK.
No. 520,136. Patented May 22, 1894.
A TTOHNEY.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PAUL A. CUENOT, OF CANTON, OHIO.
BUILDING-BLOCK.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 520,136, dated May 22, 1894.
Application filed August 22, 1893- To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL A. CUENOT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Building-Block; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which- Figures 1 and 2 are views showing portions of hollow building blocks. Fig. 3 is a View of an interposed block designed to be used in connection with the block shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 4. is a view of the interposed block designed to be used in connection with the block shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a view showing the interposed block placed in proper position with reference to the hollow blocks. Fig. 6 is a view showing the interposed block placed in proper position and illustrating portion of the hollow block broken away. Fig. 7 shows the position of the hollow blocks, when placed together in a wall.
The present invention has relation to building blocks and it consists in the combination of parts hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawlngs.
In the accompanying drawings A and A represent portions of hollowblocks, which may be constructed as shown or they may be of difierent forms inasmuch as the hollow building blocks A and A form no part of my invention, except when taken in connection with the interposed blocks B and B. The interposed block B is substantially of the form shown and as shown it is provided with flanges a, which flanges extend laterally from the faces of the block B, said flanges being of Serial No. 483,716, (No model.)
such a shape that they will fit into the open ends of the building block A. The interposed block B is substantially of the form shown in Fig. 3, and is designed and calculated to be used in connection with the hollow block A, and as shown it is provided with the side flanges a. The edges b and b of the interposed blocks B and B are formed of alength to correspond with the length of the faces of the hollow building blocks, said edges forming a part of the wall proper, as illustrated in Fig. 5. One object and purpose of providing the lateral flanges a is to provide a means for holding the building blocks in true alignment and at the same time assist in holding a sufficient amount of mortar or cement to properly unite the ends of the hollow building blocks. Another object and purpose of providing the interposed blocks B is to strengthen the hollow blocks and at the same time to strengthen the wall or foundation of a building.
It will be understood that by providing the flanges such as a the mortar will come between the faces of said flanges and the inner faces of the hollow blocks, thereby assisting in holding the mortar, and at the same time forming a better and more compact joint.
Having fully described my invention, what -I claim as new, and desire to. secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the hollow building blocks A, and interposed blocks formed to fit the hollow blocks, and provided with pro-- jecting flanges, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
PAUL A. OUENOT. Witnesses:
F. W. BOND, EUGENE GUENoT.
