Description

E.J.BULLOOK.
INSULATOR PIN. No. 527,818. Patented Oct. 9, 1894.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD J. BULLOCK, OF IVALLINGFORD, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- I-IALF TO MERWIN D. TUTTLE, OF SAME PLACE.
iNSULATOR-PIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 527,318, dated October 9, 1894., Application filed February 9, 1894. -Serial No. 499,656. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD J. BULLOCK,
of Wallingford, in the county of New Haven sulator-pin constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2, a view thereof in verticallongitudinal section; Fig. 3, a view of the pin in transverse section on the line y-y of My invention relates to an improvement in insulator-pins which are used in the crossbars of the poles or masts used for running telegraph, telephone and other electric wires. Heretofore these pins, which are made of wood, have been found objectionable because under exposure to the weather, they decay, and break off, and so foul the wires, which are restored to place with difficulty on account of their elevated location.
With these ends in View, my invention con sists in an insulator-pin having certain details of construction as will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
As herein shown, the pin, which has a long tapering head A, and a cylindrical stem A slightly smaller in diameter than the head, is constructed with a central longitudinal bore A entering it from the outer end of its head, and extending considerably below the longitudinal center of its stem. In this head I locate a reinforce, consisting as shown, of a metal tube D, which is shorter in length than the length of the bore, so that when it is driven home, the outer end of the bore will be left unoccupied for the reception of a plug C, which is made of wood, and corresponds in diameter to the diameter of the bore, in which 4 5 it is secured by glue or cement, or some equivalent material, so as to seal the bore up with a reinforce in it. If desired, the reinforce may consist simply of a solid rod,but a tubular reinforce is lighter and quite as strong.
After the bore has been formed in the pin, I preferably treat the pin with some wood preserving composition, rendering it less liable- I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
An insulator-pin for electric wires, having a long longitudinal bore formed in it, a metal reinforce located within the said bore but shorter than the length of the same, and a plug fitted tightly into the open end of the bore over the outer end of the reinforce, and sealing the same within the pin, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EDWARD J. BULLOCK.
