UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WALTER H. CLARKE, OF COLUMBUS, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO MATTHEW GRISWOLD, OF ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA.
PAPER-ROLL HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 525,335, dated September 4, 189,4. Appncationfneaoaober,9,1893. seala. 487,623- (No model-l To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER H. CLARKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oolumbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper-Roll Holders; andy I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art 1o to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, forming part of this specificatlon.
Myinvention consists in the improvements 1n paper roll holders hereinafter set forth and explained, and illustrated in the accompanylng drawings, in which- Figure 1. is a top or plan view of my imzo proved paper roll holder. Fig. 2. is an end view in elevation of the same, the upper Section being shown in dotted lines, raised up. F1g.3. is a rear view in elevation of a section of the same. Fig. 4. is a detail view in section of a portion of the same on the line in Fig. 1.
v My improved paper roll holder, illustrated 1n the accompanying drawings, consists of two semi-cylindrical sections A and B, preferably 3o of skeleton construction; the -lower section A being provided with ears C, C, upon the rear edge D thereof, by means of which it is adapted to be secured to a convenient support by means of screws passing through holes 3 5 d in the ears C C; preferably on the rear edge D of the lower section A is an upwardly projecting lug or catch D as and for the purposeY hereinafter set forth.
On the front edge E of the lower section A 4o is a horizontally projecting shelf F, the front edge of which shelf curves upward a short distance andl is provided with a serrated or saw toothed edge f. Secured to each end of the shelf F is a laterally projecting beveled locking lug G as and for the purpose hereinafter set forth.
The upper section B of my improved paper roll holder is provided at the ends of the front edge H thereof with lugs h, h, which project 5o outward therefrom and are adapted to pass under and interlock with the laterally projecting locking lug G, G, on the ends of the shelf F on the lower section A, while the rear edge I of the section B closes down upon the rear edge D of the section A in front of the lug or catch yD thereon; the upper portion of this lug or catch D curvin-g slightly inward, so that when the upper section B is closed down upon the section A the spring or elasticity of the upper section B allows the rear edge I thereof to be forced down into place, which causes sufficient engagement of the lug or catch D with the rear edge I of the upper section, so that vthe sections A and B are firmly held together. Yet, when desired, the upper section A can be readily removed by exerting sufficient force to disengage the rear edge I thereof from the lug or catch D', when it is raised as illustrated in dotted lines in Fig. 2.
'For the purpose of forming a passage for the paper from a roll .I therein, the inner corner e of the shelf F is rounded 0E, and the lower portion e of the front edge H of the upper section B is slightly cut away and rounded as illustrated in Fig. 4, leaving a clear passage F between the lower portion of the front edge H of the upper section B and the top of the shelf 5F, through which the stri p J of paper can be drawn from a roll I placed in thepaper roll holder as desired.
Having thus fully describedl my invention,- so as to enable others to construct and use the same, what I claim as new, and desire to secureby Letters Patent of the United States, is- 8 5 1. A paper roll holder consisting of two skeleton sections each cast in one piece and one section having a knife integral therewith, each section having an' `integral beveled locking lug projecting from two of its outer corners and one of the sections having an inte- .gral locking projection or lug for engaging the other section.
2. The combination in a paper roll holder of a semi-cylindrical section A, a shelf F having a serrated edge fon the front edge of said section A, and laterally projecting locking lug G, G at the ends of said shelf on said section A, with a semi-cylindrical section B, lugsA h, h, at the ends of the front-edge of said section roo B adapted to engage the looking lug G, G, on In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the section A and a lug or catch on the rear presence of two Witnesses. edge of one of said sections adapted to be sprung into frietional engagement with the WALTER H' CLARKE' 5 rear edge of the other of said sections, by Vitnesses:
means of the spring of the parts substantially F. ETNFELDT,
as and for the purpose set forth. H. J. CURTZE.
