` through which water is to be drawn. The
upper end of this tube is provided with a male screw, which ts into a female screw in the" cap-piece B.
. At the upper end of the fenmle screw, within i the cap-piece B, is a shoulder, against which the end of the tube A fits when it is screwed -up snuglyto its place.
' G represents a metallic rod, which tits snugly within the tube A, and being made a little longer than said tube..
.D represents a polntedsocket, into4v which `the lower end of the tube A ts,'the end ofthe tubefitting against a' shoulder in the said socket. The rod'C ts against the cap B at .its top, and at its lower end against the bottoni of the opening in the socket D.
The tube'A is provided. with holes in its periphery just abo-ve the socket Din order to allow `water to enter it.
To use thiswell an opening hole is made in the ground byaneans of the tube and auger represented in the drawing.' The end of the pointed socket D is placed in the hole thus lnade, and by striking u'pon the cap-piece the 4tube is ibrced'down to the required depth.
