UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ELI H. NEIMAN, OF YORK, AND SAMUEL EDWARD BEECHER, OF MILTON, PENNSYLVANIA; SAID BEEGHER ASSIGNOR TO SAID NEIMAN.
' ARTIFICIAL TOOTH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Iaetters Patent No. 513,818, dated January 30, 1894. Application filed December 29,1892. Serial No. 456.6%. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, ELI H. NEIMAN, residing at York, in the county of York, and SAMUEL EDWARD BEECHER, residing at Milton, in the county of Northumberland, State of Pennsylvania, both citizens of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Artificial Teeth; and'we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Ourinvention has relation to improvements in artificial teeth and it consists in providing the same with headed pins adapted to engage dovetailed grooves vertically arranged in rear of the gum or burned portion of the teeth and in combination therewith, a longitudinal groove extending from one side of the teeth and in rear thereof to the other side, whereby the plate, in connection, with the headed pins, is firmly held in position and prevented from accidental displacement, all as will be herein after more fully explained and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrates our invention, in which- Figure 1, representsavertical sectional view of our device. .Fig. 2, is a longitudinal sectional view with the plate removed. Fig. 3, is a rear view of the teeth, also with the plate removed, showing our device and Fig. 4 is a detail view.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A, designates artificial or false teeth, of which 01/ is the plate constructed of rubber or other suitable material and b the teeth; 0 the composition representing the gums of the teeth and d d are the holding pins. On the rear face of the portion c, the same is constructed with vertical dovetailed grooves e, the lower portion of which-is closed while the upper part of said grooves are left open to receive a correspondingly dovetailed head or enlargement f on one end of apin 01, while the opposite end thereof is provided with a head gand between which head and enlargement f, is a neck or shank it all for apurpose presently explained. The rear face of the portion 0 is further provided with a longitudinal groove 2', providing a shoulder j, below the pins aforesaid.
It will be seen from the above description and by reference to the annexed drawings that in constructing the portion a, the dovetailed grooves are provided after which the dovetailed pins are inserted therein, leaving the neck and head thereof projecting inwardly, when the plate is made to cover the entire pins and to project at the same time within the longitudinal groove 2', when said pins will prevent said plate from a rearwardly movement from the portion 0 while the groove 2' prevents the same from displacement verti cally. Thus the combination of the two viz, the groove '5 and headed pins serves the excellent purpose of firmly securing the plate to the portion 0, thus providing durable, as well as inexpensive artificial teeth.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim is In artificial teeth, the vertical dovetailed grooves e open at the top to admit the pins and horizontal groovet'constructed in the portion 0 said vertical grooves adapted to receive the pins 01, in combination with the plate a, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
ELI H. NEIMAN. S. EDWARD BEECHER.
