DAVID P. GERMAN, OF NEW HARTFORD, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO JEROME B. GERMAN, OF SAME PLACE.
SPINNING MECHA'NISM.
I SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 510,909, dated December 19, 1893.
Application filed February 13, 1893. Serial No. 462,041. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern: as .fr to be drawn and which faces are prefer- Be it known that I, DAVD P. GERMAN, of ablycovered withleatheror someother similar New Hartford, in the county of Oneida and material. State of New York, have invented certain new Mounted on top of the rollers c, b and c are 5 5 5 and useful Improvements in Spinning Mechrollers f, g and h. v These rollers are mounted anism; and I do hereby declare that the folin adjustable bearings or between guiding lowing is a full, clear, and exact description walls which engage on the journals l and 2 of of the invention, which will enable others each roller and hold the rollers in place on top skilled in the art to which it appertains to of each of the lower rollers. The rollers f, g 6o to make and use the same, reference being had and h are each provided with faces z' and j to the accompanying drawings, and to the letcoinciding with the faces d and e of the lower ters and gures of reference marked thereon, rollers and adapted to engage the threads to be which form part of this specification. drawn in the operation of spinning or other- My invention relates to an improvement in wise. 6 5
15 devices particularly adapted to spinning ma- Between the facest' and j of the upper rollchines. ers engage movable bearing blocks 3 and 4;
In the drawings which accompany and ,the block 3 hearing on the journals of two of form a part of this specification, and in the rollers and the block 4 on the journal of which similar letters and gures of reference one of the rollers and on the block 3 between 7o zo refer to correspondingY parts in the several the two journals of the other rollers, whereby views, 'Figure l shows a plan view of a set of pressure is exerted on all of the rollers by the three rollers for drawing the yarn in a spinstirrupv 5. The stirrup 5 is engaged at the ning machine in the usual manner. Fig. 2 lower end by lever 6 so as to draw down on shows a front elevation of the same rollers in the stirrup and press the upper rollers ou to 75 25 connection with the pressure mechanism by the lower rollers. The fulcrnm end ofthe le` which the upper rollers are held against the ver 6 is providedwith a nose 7 which has an lower rollers in gripping the thread to draw upwardV turn at its end adapted to enter axial the same. Fig. 3 shows a cross section'of the opening 8 in the upper end of the fulcrnm roller journals in connection with a side view piece 9 while the nose itself is received in one 3o 3o of the mechanism for pressing the upper rollof the fourvertical slotted openings 10 proers on to the lower rollers. Figs. 2 and 3 are vided in the head of the fulcrnm piece 9. The
shown in connection with sections of the frame fulcrnm piece 9 is provided with a screw of the machine, the greater portion of the thread 1l by means of which it is secured in frame being omitted as unnecessary details. the frame bearing or other suitable support 85 3 5 Fig. 4 shows the improved fulcrnm piece for 12, and-by means of which the fulcrnm piece the lever which exerts the pressure to hold may also be adjusted. On the swinging end the rollers together and which constitutes my of the lever may be attached a spring as 13 l present invention. Fig. 5 shows a cross secfor holding down the lever and pressing the tion of the fulcrum piece on line A-B of Fig. upper rollers onto the lower rollers. The op- 9o 4o 4. Fig. 6 shows a vertical central section of posite end of the spring 13 from that attached my improved fulcrnm piece on line C-D of to the lever may be attached to the frame or Fig. 4 in connection with a portion of the leany other suitable support. The spring 13 ver. Fig. 7 shows a side and edge view of the may be entirely dispensed with, and a weight, old form of fulcrnm piece. Fig. 8 shows a as shown at 14 in Fig. 8 substituted therefor. 4'; detail in which a weight is substituted for a The operation of the device is too obvious spring for operating the lever. to warrant description; it is sufficient to say Referring more particularly to the referthat the diiiculty of these devices as heretoence numerals and letters in a more specific fore made, is that the material above the nose description of the device a, b and c are rollers 7 wears and cuts out, and that in adjusting roo 5o mounted in Iixed bearings on the frame and the fulcrnm piece it is necessary to give a having faces 61,6 adapted to engage the thread complete or half turn, as otherwise the lever cannot be placed in position. In the presentconstruction, the fulcrum piece may be adj usted minutely by removing the end of the lever and giving the fulcrum piece a quarter turn, or more by quarters as is required. Further than this, there are four times the amount'of Wear as there are four shoulders as shown ats on which the lever engages and which have to be worn out before the fulcrum piece is useless. gaging in the opening 8 in the fulcrum piece also prevents lateral movement of the lever and holds the lever always in the same position with the same length of arm t tween the fulcrum point and the Weighted point.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The combination of a lever having a nose or projection, and a fnlcrum piece having transverse stop or openings at angles to each other to receive the end of the lever, and a recessor opening above the transverse slotsfor receiving the nose or projection, substantially asset forth.
2. The combination of a lever having an up- The nose 7 of the arm en-V wardly turned nose or projection on its fulcrum end and a fnlcrum piece having a screw threaded stem, and ahead having transverse slots for receiving the end of the lever, and a recess or depression at the intersection of the slots to receive the nose or projection on the lever, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination with a suitable support, of a fulcrum piece having means of adjustment bodily with reference to the support, and having an opening in the axial line thereof, and radial slots or openings from the axial opening to the exterior, the end portion of the body at the upper end of each radial opening serving as a fulcrum, and a lever having a fulcrum end adapted to be placed in either of the radial openings, with a projection adapted to engage in the axial opening, substantially as set forth. p
In Witness whereof I have aixed mysignature in' presence of two Witnesses.
