BABY-SWING.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 51,772, dated December 26, 1865.

To all 'wliom it may concewt:

Be it known that I, J AooB VVOLF, of Cleveland, in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Baby- Swings; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full7 clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the acconi` panying-drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

In the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, A A represent the supports of the swing. These supports are four in number, and each one is made oftwo pieoes of wood, said pieces being secured togetherattheir ends and forrning a space between them in the shape of an elongated ellipse7 as shown in the figures. The supports on each side are connected at top w and bottom by means of 1the cross-pieces H and l, and the supports opposite each other are hinged together, as shown, Figure 1.

B represents a roller7 which has iron pins driven into its ends, and these pins form a portion of the hinge which connects the two opposite supports together. The roller B is provided with two holes, through which passes a cord. A short distance below where the cord passes through the roller a knot is tied, and two cords are s'ecured at each knot, and

these cords (four in number) pass down and are secured to the seat O at its four corners.

O represents the seat, which is niade square and large enough for a child to sit upon.

D D represent bars above and separated from the seat by means of the tubes E E, which are intended to prevent the child from falling` from the seat.

G represents a cord which connects the opposite supports together7 allowing` them to separate only a certain distance. Instead of this cord l may use a hinged bar.

The supports A are so placed that the arches formed by the two parts of the support resist lateral pressure, and thus the swing is made very firm.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The seat O, with the tubes E E and crosspieccs D D, arranged and used as and for the purpose specified. l v
