UNITED STATES PATENT W'ILLAM J. DANKWORTH, OF TEMPLE, TEXAS.
eAIvua-HOOK.`
SPEFICTION forming part Of Letters :Patent N0. 515,997, dated. March G, 1894..
Application filed June 10, 1893. Serial No. 77,2061 (N0 mOdSl-l i To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM J. DANK- WORTH, of Temple, in the county of Bell and State of Texas, have invented a new and Improved Latch Hams-Hook, of which the Jfollowing is a The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved latch llame-hook, which is simple and durable in construction, and arranged to securelylock the trace link in place '1ro lprevent accidental displacement of the The invention consists of certain parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part oi' this speciication, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a side elevation of the improvement as applied. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view of the same on the line 2--2 ot' Fig. l; and Figs. 3 and a are face views of the two plates detached.
The improved ham'e hook is made of two platesAand B, of which the plateA is formed at one end with the bend A having a slot A2 adapted to be engaged by a tongue B formed on the other plate B, so that the two plates, when engaged, form an eye for the staple C attached to the haine D.
The plate A is provided with transverselyextending recesses or notches A3 and A, adapted to be engaged by correspondingly shaped lugs B2 and B3, respectively, on the other plate B, so that when the two plates are fitted one on the other they are securely held in place and lateral displacement is pren vented.
full, clear, and exact description.'
In the plates A and B are arranged the slots A4 and B4 respectively, curved in opposite directions, as is plainly illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4, and terminating at their inner ends in the enlargements A5 and B5 respectively, in register with each other when the two plates are fastened in place one on the other, as above described. New, it will be seen that the trace link E of the trace F can be readily moved into engagement with the two curved slots A4 and B4 at the time the said plates are detached, but when the two plates are attached one on the other with the curves of the slots in opposite directions, then the trace link is locked in place in the enlargements A5 and B5, so that a displacement of the link is prevented.
It will be seen that this hame hook is very simple and durable in construction, can be readily applied to any hame staple, and is arranged to be connected with any trace link at the time the two plates are apart.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A latch hame hook comprising the two plates, of which one is curved at one end and slotted to receive the tongue of the other plate, so as to form an eye for the llame staple, one of the said plates being also provided with lugs engaging recesses in the other plate, each of the said plates being also provided with slots curved in opposite directions and having their inner ends in register with each other, substantially as shown and described.
WILLIAM J DANKWORTH.
