STATES PATENT OFFI ANNIE L. FAESTEL, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
TAILORS DRAFTING DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 503,741, dated August 22, 1893.
Application filed April 10, 1893. Serial No. 469,696. (No model.) 7
T0 aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANNIE L. FAESTEL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee, and in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drafting Devices; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention has for its object to provide a dress-makers or tailors drafting-device combining a right-angle square and a series of independent curve-bars, the latter being designed as an aid to accurate drafting of the neck, arms, sides and sleeves of a garmentin accordance with a previously taken tape-line measurement; the said invention consisting in certain peculiarities of construction and combination of parts hereinafter specified with reference to the accompanying drawing and subsequently claimed.
The drawing represents a plan view of a drafting device in accordance with my invention.
Referring by letter to the drawing A represents a two arm right-angle square shown as having both arms thereof provided with any suitable scale, such as inches and fractions thereof, and I prefer to provide at least one of the arms with a folding section B in order to extend theirlength and yet economize space at such times as said square is notin use. Adjacent to their intersection, the arms of the square have their inner edges joined by a curve bar 0 that may or may not be provided with a scale, arbitrary characters, marks or notches for the convenience of the person employing the device, this curve being designed for drafting the neck and arms of a garment or the pattern representing the same. Joined to the arms of the square at their inner edges is another curve bar D, shown as provided witha scale, and this curve bar is designed for employment in drafting the sides of a garment or a pattern representing the same. Still another curve bar E is joined to the arms of the square, and this latter curve bar is also shown as provided with a scale, said curve bar being for employment in the drafting of the sleeves of a garment or a pattern representing the same.
By the employment of the several independent curve bars above specified the irregular lines of a garment or pattern for the same may be accurately determined, while the regular lines of said garment or its pattern are obtained by the square. Hence by the combination of this square and said curve bars I provide a very convenient device for the use in the laying out of either male or fe male Wearing apparel and insure an excellence of fit of such apparel.
Having thus described my invention,\vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A drafting-device comprising a two arm right-angle square having a series of independent curve bars joining the inner edges of its arms, substantially as set forth.
2. A drafting-device comprising a two arm right-angle square having a series of independent curve bars joining the inner edges of its arms, and a folding continuation of one of said arms, substantially as set forth.
3. A drafting-device comprising a two arm right-angle square, a side form curve bar, and a sleeve curve bar, these curve bars being suitably scaled and joined at their extremities to the inner edges of the square-arms, substantially as set forth.
4. A drafting-device comprising a two-arm right-angle square, a neck and arm curve bar a side form curve bar and a sleeve curve bar, these curve bars being joined at their extremities to the inner edges of the square-arms, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, at Milwaukee,in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, in the presence of two witnesses.
ANNIE L. FAESTEL.
