(No Model.) J. H. HALL.
- STOVE GAME I No; 502,189. (I Patented July 2 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN HENRY HALL, OF BRANTFORD, CANADA.
STOVE-CASTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 502,189, dated July 25, 1893.
Application filed February 24, 1893. Serial No. 463,562- (No model.)
T0 00% whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, JOHN HENRY HALL, of the city of Brantford, in the county of Brant, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented a certainnew and useful Improvement in Stove-Casters, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the invention is to provide an easily applied and effective stove caster by which the feet of the stove may be raised clear of the floor, and it consists in the peculiar construction, arrangement and combinations of parts hereinafter more particularly described and then definitely claimed.
The drawing represents a perspective view of my device applied to the leg of a stove.
In the drawing, A, is a bracketsecured to the stove leg B, by means of a bolt 0, which passes through a hole in the leg B,and is provided with a nut D, as indicated. The base a, of the bracket A, is shaped to fit against the leg B, and into a notch I), made in each side of the said leg.
E, is a plate fixed to or adj ustably held upon the top of the bracket A, the end of this plate E, fitting against the inside of the stove leg B. When my device is made for a particular size and style of stove leg, this plate E is made permanent upon the top of the bracket A, and
abuts against the interior of the stove leg B, when the nut D, is tightened on the bolt C.
WVhen my device is made for stoves of various styles and sizes, I make the plate E, adjustable upon the top of the bracket A, preferably holding it by means of a set screw F, and notching the top of the bracket A, and the bottom surface of the plate E, so that when the set screw F, is tightened, the plate E, will be held permanently in position.
By making notches b, in the leg B, and tightening the bolt 0, so as to draw the base a, into the said notches and the end of the plate E, against the inside of the stove leg B,I secure the bracket A, rigidly to the stove leg B, holding it so that the hole through the bracket A, shall be vertical.
G, is a nut screwed into the bottom end of the hole made through the bracket A. A smaller hole is made through this nut G, through which the spindle H, passes. On the bottom of this spindle, the caster wheel I, is placed as shown in the drawing.
When it is desired that the weight of the stove shall be carried by the legs B, the nut G, is adjusted so as to let the feet of the legs B, rest upon the ground.
When it is desired to raise the feet clear of the ground, the nut G, is screwed down against the base of the spindle H or the top of the frame of the caster wheel I, and in this way the bracket A, is raised and as the leg B, is connected as described to the said bracket, the said leg will be elevated accordingly. As the elevating of each leg is done by simply turning a nut like G, the said legs may be very easily elevated to a greater or less extent as may be required and without the slightest strain or effort.
With the view of bracing the four legs of the stove together, I provide two bent rods J, the ends of each rod being hooked so as to fit into holes made in the base a, of the bracket A, as illustrated. These rods J are held together bya link K, provided with a set screw L, the tightening of which draws the rods J, together and thereby efiects the desired purose.
It should be mentioned that after the caster wheel is placed in position the top of the spindle H, is burred out as shown to prevent the caster dropping out if the stove is lifted.
What I claim as my invention is 1. In a stove-caster, a bracket provided with means for securing it to the stove-leg, a hollow nutinserted in said bracket and adapted to be screwed in or out wherebythe stoveleg is raised or lowered, and a caster-spindle inserted in the hole in said nut, substantially as described.
2. In a stove-caster, a bracket having a caster adapted to be raised or lowered therein and means for adjusting said caster in any desired position, and a plate extending from said bracket adapted to bear against the stoveleg and thereby hold the upper end in position, in combination with means for securing said bracket to the stove-leg, substantially as described.
3. In a stove-caster, a bracket having a caster adapted to be raised or lowered therein and means for adjusting said caster in any desiredposition, a plate adj ustably connected to the top of and extending from said bracket and adapted to bear against the stove-leg, and
thereby hold the upper end of said bracket ers, and means for securing said brackets to in position, in combination with means for the stove-legs, in combination with rods J, securing said bracket to the stove-leg, subeach rod connected with two of said brackets, stantially as described. and means substantially as described, for ad 4. In a stove-caster, a bracket provided justing said rods, as and for the purpose set With a caster and having its base fitted into forth. notches in the stove-leg, a plate fixed t0 the Brantford, February 17, 1893. top of said bracket and adapted to bear against 0 7 said st0ve-1eg,in combination with a bolt and JOHN HENRX HALL nut for securing the bracket to the stove-leg, In presence ofsubstantially as described. GEO. W. W. BILLINGS,
5. In a stove, brackets provided with cast- E. P. BURNS.
