Description

(No Model.)
V O. F. BILLIG. v SPRING HOLDER FOR VEHIULE LAMPS.
No. 501,401. Patented July 11, 1893.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CARL FRIEDRICH BILLIG, OF ALT-CHEMNITZ, GERMANY.
SPRING-HOLDER FOR VEHICLE-LAMPS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 501,401, dated July 11, 1893.
Application tiled May 4, 1892. Serial No. 431,841- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CARL FRIEDRICH BIL- LIG, a subject of the King of Saxony, and a resident of Alt-Ohemnitz, in the Kingdom of Saxony, German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring- Holders for Vehicle-Lamps, of which the following is a specification.
This new lamp-holder serves to overcome all shocks and vibrations which, especially with springless vehicles, are imparted from the wheels to the lamp in consequence of the rigid connection of the wheels with the wagon body. This result is accomplished by means of a peculiarly arranged lever, in combination with a spiral spring.
The improved holder can be attached to any vehicle and it renders the extinguishing and flickering of the flame impossible.
My invention consists in a novel construction of lamp-holders as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is shown in the accompanying drawings in which- Figure I is a side elevation and Fig. II is a plan of the holder.
The main part of the lam p-holder comprises a vertical post 1) having at its upper end an ornamental knob a and at its lower end a rigidly attached bracket 0 bent to form horizontal arms 0' c and a vertical arm 0 the latter arm being provided with two perforations in which are two bolts R, R, through the medium of which the entire device is secured to the vehicle which carries it. The arm 0" extends forward and the arm 0 extends there from toward the side of the vehicle so that the light of the lamp may be seen from the rear as well as from the front of the vehicle.
d is a ring, which has a lining-ring eof elastic material, and into this ring d is inserted the lamp, the same being secured by a setscrew f. The ring d is supported by two superposed links or levers g g which are pivoted at their respective ends to said ring and to the post b. A spiral-spring h attached at one end to upper link or lever g and at the other end to a hook 11 on post 12, supports the ring (1 by a yielding tension. As will readily be seen, in consequence of'the parallel-lever support of the ring d, the lamp will be held in a uniformly vertical position, while through the spiral-spring h, vibrations will be overcome.
A lamp-holder consisting of a bracket 0 formed with a vertical arm 0 a horizontal forwardly projecting arm 0" and a horizontal outwardly projecting arm 0 the post b supported on the outer end of the outwardly projecting arm, the ring (1 the superposed links g by which the ring is supported on the post, and the spiral spring h by which the upper link is secured to the post; substantially as described. I
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
CARL FRIEDRICH BILLIG.
