SHOE-FASTENING.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 501,301, dated July 11, 1893.

To all, whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ADOLF SOHMIED, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at Waiblingen, in the Kingdom of Wtirtemberg, German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fastenings for Foot Coverings, Corsets, and the Like, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improved fastening for foot-coverings, corsets and other similar articles, and the object of the improvement is to provide means by which the fastenings can be all loosened simultaneously. The usual trouble of unlacing or unbuttonin g through eyelets or button-holes, each time a boot, corset, or the like is taken off, is thereby avoided, and boots, shoes, corsets and other similar articles made on this principle can be loosened very easily which is a matter of much importance especially in cases of accident.

The new fastening essentially consists of a row of hooks attached to one, and of a row of projecting rings, fixed to the other of the two parts or pieces to be connected with each other. Through the said rings is passed a rod or bar and held therein by suitable means, such as For connecting or uniting the parts thus furnished the hooks of the one part'are to be hooked to the rod or bar of the other, efiecting thereby a reliable joining or fastening of the said parts. For loosening and opening the fastening it is only necessary to pull the rod or bar out of the projecting rings and the hooks embracing it.

In the accompanying drawings, the new fastening device or clasp is illustrated as applied for instance to a boot and to a corset.

Figure 1, shows a boot provided with the new fastening device, ready for being put on. Fig. 2, is a side view of the boot after the same has been put on; the clasp or fastening being closed. Fig. 3, illustrates the boot after loosening the fastening or clasp by pulling or drawing out the fastening rod. Fig. 4., shows the fastening rod. Figs. 5 to 7, are sections on the lines 11, 2-2 and 33 of the Figs. 1 to 3 respectively in a somewhat larger scale. Figs. 8, 9, 10, are views of a corset provided with the new fastening, said views corresponding respectively to Figs. 1, 2, and 3. Fig. 11, illustrates the fastening bar. Figs. 12 to 14, are

enlarged sections on the lines 4-4, 5-5, 6-6 respectively of Figs. 8, 9, and 10.

At or near the edge of the front cover A of the boot is fixed a row of suitable hooks a, while at or near the corresponding edge of the heel-piece B a row of projecting rings a is attached. When the fastening is to be loosened, the ball 01 mustbe unscrewed from the top of the rod 1) and then this rod is pulled down and out of the said rings 0 and hooks a, so that the said hooks a are simultaneously freed. Referring now to Figs. 8 to 1-;t inclusive, which illustrate the application of the new fastening to a corset, the one half A of the corset is provided with hooks a, while the other B'has a row of projecting eyes or rings 0', through which the square bar I) is passed. (Fig. 8.) For closing the corset the hooks a. are to be hooked to the bar b. The several parts will. then be in the position shown in Fig. 9. For opening the corset it is only necessary, as already stated in the description of the boot-fastening, to pull the bar I) out of the eyes 0'. (Fig. 10.)

Having fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A fastening device for boots, corsets, and similar articles consisting of a series of rings on one of the meeting parts, a rod movably inserted in said rings, and hooks on the other of said meeting parts adapted to engage on said rod substantially as described.

2. A fastening for boots, corsets, and similar articles, and having the rod 1), rings 0, and hooks a, substantially as described.
