UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WALTER S. EISEMAN, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO CORTLAND KELLY, OF SAME PLACE.
COMBINED TICK ET PUNCH AND STAMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 508,821, dated November 14, 1893.
Application filed May 11, 1892- Serial No. 432,624. (No model.)
have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in a Combined Ticket Punch and Stamp, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being hadfto the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
The invention consists in certain details of construction as hereinafter described and set forth in the claims.
FigureI is a perspective view of the instrument. Fig. II is a side view of the same with the hinged cover thrown open, part being in longitudinal section taken at 11-11, Fig. III. Fig. III is a detail top view with part broken Fig. IVis a detail side view with the hinged cover removed. The parts are shown in, full lines in normal position and by dotted lines in position of action. Fig. V is a detail end view illustrating Fig. V1 is a detail bottom view with parts broken out.
. 1 and 2 are the jaws having handles 1 and 2 pressed apart by a spring 3. The jaw 1 carries upon its top a punch 4 and a rubber stamp 5. The stamp is set in a suitable recess 6 and may be changed at will. It may consist of diiferent figures and letters. The jaw 2 has an upturned part 2 that carries on its inner side a porous pad 7 that is saturated with marking ink when the instrument is in condition for use.
8 is a frame composed of two similar bent levers connected by a pintle 9 on which turns an inking roller 10. The levers are pivoted upon lugs projecting from the part 2". The construction is such that when the parts are in normal position, shown in Figs. I, II, III and IV, the inking roller rests on the face of the rubber stamp. WVhen the instrument is in. use the inking roller is removed from the stamp and rests against the pad 7 receiving ink therefrom, as shown by dotted lines in Fig.1V- The relative position of the parts is such that as the jaw l is raised (by the approach of the handles 1 and 2 the jaw 1 pushes the ink roller to .the pad 7. The lower ends 8* of the levers are pushed down by'the jaw 1 as it moves toward its normal position and this again carries the inking roller over the rubber stamp. v 11 is the cover which is pivoted at 12 to the bottom of the jaw 2 and which is capable of moving from the clos'ed position shown in Fig. I to the open position shown in Fig. II or vice versa. When the cover is open the pad 7 may be replenished with ink or the rubber stamp changed as desired. When the cover is closed the instrument is in position for use.
13are spring catches that engage in holes 14 of the sides of the cover, these catches being pushed out by the springs 15 and drawn in, to disengage the cover by knobs 16 working in transverse slots 17 in the bottomofthe jaw 2 in which jaw the catches havebearmg. The cover has .a longitudinal slot 18 in which the edge of the ticket is inserted; and the ticket when soinserted is between the top 11 of the cover and the punch and rubber stamp below.
19 is a punch hole into which the punch passes when the jaw l is" forced ,upward by forcing the handles v1 and 2 together; at the same time the stamp 5 presses the ticket against the top plate of the cover and prints the design of the rubber stamp upon the ticket. Thus the ticket is simultaneously punched and printed.
I claim as my invention- V 1. The combination, in a combined punch and stamp, of the printing stamp carried on the jaw 1. and. an inking roller carried on a frame actuated by the jaw 1 and pivoted to the other jaw 2 and adapted to ink the stamp, substantially as, and for the purpose set forth. 2. In a combined punch and stamp for hand use, a jaw 1 carrying a punch 4 and stamp 5 and a pivoted frame 8 carrying an inking roller adapted to roll over the face. ofthe stamp, projection 8 of the frame and an ink pad 7, all constructed and adapted to operate substantially as set forth.
3. The combination, ina combined ticket punch and stamp, of the two jaws 1 and 2, the former carrying the punch 4. and stamp 5,
and the latter (2) carrying the pivoted inking frame 8 with inking roller and projections 8, and'an inking pad 7 and acover 11 ivoted to the jaw 2and provided with the punch hole 19, and slot 18, and havinga surface adapted to hold the ticket to the stamp, all substantially as set forth.
4. The combination, in a combined ticket punch and stamp, of the jaw 1 having the punch 4 and stamp 5, the jaw 2 having the cover 11 and the ink roller frame 8 pivoted thereto, the ink pad attached to the jaw 2, the punch-hole l9 and surface to resist the pressure of the stamp against the inner side of the ticket, and means for locking the cover in a closed position, substantially as set forth.
5. The combination of the upper and lower jaws pivoted together, a cover loosely con-
