To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, NATALIE SOHELL, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dress-Forms; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of said invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it most nearly appertains to make, use, and practice the same.

My invention has relation to certain new and useful improvements in bust forms for dress making, or other purposes, which consists in the arrangement of parts and details of construction as will be hereinafter more fully set forth in the drawings, described and pointed out in the specification.

The object of my invention is to provide a form which will be an exact counterpart in measurement, of the human bust, so as to insure the making of clothes thereon which when completed will fit perfectly, with only requirement of such alterations as would be necessitated if fitted to the person direct as a model; and further in allowing for ready and easy adjustment of parts so as to permit changing of size and measurements in accordance with varying changes of the person.

Referring to the drawings forming a part of this specification, wherein similar letters of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the entire specification and several views-Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved form; Fig. 2 a front view of the back section, showing manner of adj ustably connecting the sections together so as to allow for increase or decrease of the bust measurement; and Fig. 3 a detail view of the arm detached from the bust.

In carrying out my invention I first measure or secure the bust of the person by fitting thereto a jacket composedof heavy base material, such as cotton or any suitable fabric cloth, which I afterwardtake apart in sec tions or quarters A, and to which is stitched or secured a more permanent backing, preferably of wire gauze, B. This backing enables me to give the proper bend or curves to the cloth, in order when properly united, as

hereinafter more fully set forth, that a perfect form of the bust will be produced. After securing the cloth and backing together the two are united to the vertical and cross metallic strips 0, O, which serves to give proper rigidity to the sections in order to prevent displacement of curves, &c.,in-handling. These strips are provided with a series of apertures or openings 0, 0, through which pass bolts or not screw b, in order to unite the parts together. serve to adj ustably unite the parts together, that is to say the outer and inner coverings and the reinforcing ribs. When thus secured or united the bust sections are formed, each being similar, which are united or socured together by means of pieces or strips, D, as clearly shown in Figs. .1 and 2. These strips or pieces are provided with a series of openings or holes 8, placed a predetermined distance apart, say one-quarter of an inch. When the sections are secured together the entire bust is formed, which is further braced or strengthened by means of cross pieces E, preferably made sliding 0r adj ust- These screws or bolts able. The bust is constructed in four sections cloth and wire backing, while upper and lower cross strips 0, do likewise for top and bottom edges. The cross braces or piece-s E, being sliding or adjustable, it is obvious that same will readily give to in or out movement of the bust sections.

The bust form is, by preference, mounted or secured upon an adjustable base or stand, which consists of the strips F, connected to the bottom of bust, asshown. These strips are held together, so as to prevent spreading,

by means of band fiand are strengthened by supporting strips f, shown in Fig.1. The bottoms or lower ends of strips F, are connected by cross pieces f", the upturned ends f, of which are provided with holes 6 so as to allow of adjustability in order to raise or lower the stand.

To the form bust is secured the arm by means of springs g, which while being of sufficient resiliency to hold the same in place, allows of free movement thereof. The arms are constructed in two members H H, each made, by preference, in two sections, which are adj ustably united by cross pieces or strips g, similar to the bust sections. The lower member H, of the arm, is united to upper member H, by springs h, so as to permit of free movement and bend to be given. By thus connecting the arm, the same is allowed natural movement in order to permit of per foot fit being assured, and by means of its adjustability of parts the same may be increased or decreased in accordance with change in arm of person. The wrist H is connected to the arm by springs h, and by means of the cord W, the arm may be held or secured in any desired position, by merely drawing the same taut and securing lower ends together, inasmuch as upper ends pass through members H, H, as shown in Fig. 3.

By my improved form I am enabled to secure a perfect counterpart of the persons bust and at the same time permit of adjustability so as to correspond with natural changes of the persons form, thus obviating the necessity of purchasing a new form as the body increases or decreases.

In order to secure desired change it is only necessary to measure the person and bust, thence properly adjust same by moving connecting strips in or out.

I am aware that minor changes may be made in the arrangement of parts and details of construction herein shown and described,

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure protection in by Letters Patent, is-

1. The combination with the bust form, of the arms movably connected thereto, said arms consisting of members each composed of sections adj ustably secured together and havingthe upper and lower members of the arm proper movably fastened so as to allow the natural bend of the arm to be imparted, as and for the purpose set forth.

2. The combination with a bust form, substantially as set forth, of the arms movably connected thereto, said arms consisting of members each composed of sections adjustably secured together, the upper and lower part of the arm and wrist being secured by a spring connection, and a cord passing through the upper and lower members of the arm and down to the wrist as and for the purpose set forth.

3. A bust form composed of a series of independent sections, each section comprising two plies of material, the inner ply being of greater rigidity than the outer, said plies being separably attached to reinforcing ribs, and means for adjustably connecting together the edges of the sections.

4. A bust form composed of a series of independent sections, each section comprising two plies of material, the inner ply being of greater rigidity than the outer,said plies being attached to reinforcing ribs, and of means for adjustably connecting the edges of the sections.
