SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 505,047, dated September 12, 1893.

To all whom it may concern,.-

Be it known that I, WILLIAM KEGLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bellevue, in the county of Jackson and State 0f Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pump Curbs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled inthe art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to pump curbs and has special reference to strengthening various parts of curbs for chain pumps which are made of galvanized iron, and also protecting the platform in which the pump is set, from decay by the action of the water, the details of which will more fully appear in the specication and drawings forming a part thereof, in Which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the curb and platform. Fig. 2 is a cross section through the line w-w of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a vertical section through the rim and through a portion ot' the curb and platform to which the rim is attached. Fig. 4t is a partial sectional and perspective View of the T-shaped rim showing the manner of attaching the same to the curb and platform. Fig. 5 is a plan view of the platform upon which the curb rests, and Fig. 6 is a partial sectional view of the pump curb, the stay piece attached to the same being shown in perspective.

In the accompanying drawings, A denotes the body of a metallic curb fora chain or other suitable pump, and B the platform upon which the curb rests. Through the center of the platform is cut a hole C, slightly larger than the curb A. The lower edge of the curb is bentupward and outward and is securely riveted to a downwardly extending arm of a cast iron rim D, which latter is T-shaped in cross section. The rim extends entirely around the lower edge of the curb, as shown in Figs. l and 2, and is formed at suitableintervals with projecting perforated ears F, by means of which the rim can be securely riveted to the platform. It will be seen that by attaching the curb A to the inside of the T` shaped rim D as shown and by resting the Serial No. 465.776. (No model.)

rim on the platform B, so that the lower end of the curb will project down into or through the platform B, the water which is thrown against the inside of the curb will run hack into the cistern or well and the platform will be kept dry and prevented from decaying. It will also be seen that by attachlng the curb A to the rim, which is made of cast iron, the curb is strengthened and will not at all be liable to wabble, or become in any manner unsteady. G is the tube through which the water is raised and is usually held from dropping down into the well by a rod or strap I-I which passes around tube G and is bolted to the front end of the curb A, on opposite sides of the spout I, by the nuts J J. It will be seen that by attaching the tube G in this manner all the weight of the tube comes upon the front side of the curb A. In order to strengthen the curb at this point and better sustain the tube, I provide on the inside of the curb a curved stay piece K and solder it securely at L. L. to the opposite sides of the curb. This stay K is curved down under or in front of the tube G and has an opening through the center through which the spout I passes. When the tube G is drawn firmly to the front of the curb by the rod I-I and nuts J J, itwill rest in the hollow of the stay K and the stay be pressed against the front of the curb, and by fastening the ends ofthe stay to the opposite sides of the curb, the whole curb is braced and rendered exceedingly rigid.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

In combination with a platform having a central opening, a pump curb having a rim provided with a socket at its end, a T shaped attaching rim having one arm adapted to rest in the socket rim and meansfor fastening the respective arms to the outer face of the curb and the surrounding edge of said platform, substantially as described.
