SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 492,409, dated February 28, 1893.. Application filed November 19, 1892- gerial No. 452,482. (No model.) Patented in England January 14, 1892, No. 787.

To aZZ whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JOHN MAY, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, and a resident of Penhurst, London, in the county of Kent, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Finger-Guards for Table- Knives,(for whichI have obtained a patentin Great Britain,No. 787, dated January 14, 1892,) of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.

My invention relates to an improved finger support, rest, or guard for table or other knives and consists of a padded clip of any suitable shape and material padded or cushioned upon the inside and outside bearing surfaces with indiarubber felt or the like.

Referring to the annexed drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation. Fig. 2, section through line a-y Fig. 1.

For example I provide a piece of steel or other material a about one inch, more or less long which I bend into a shape so as to clip the back of the knife 0. Upon the two inside bearing surfaces of the-clip a, likewise the top, I provide cushions of indiarubber or felt or other soft material 11 and b. The finger it will be understood rests 0r bears upon the said fiat top of the clip a on cushion b att iched to the back of knife 0 and so protects the finger from injury. The clip a may be made to form an ornamentation as well as a protection to the finger.

What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

In finger guards for knives a clip a provided with a cushion b and rubber bearing surfaces 01 in combination with the back of the knife, substantially as described.
