- 'JOHN DE G ROFF, OF CHICAGQ ILLINOIS.
wAsH'ruB.
sPncmcA'rIoN forming m of Letters Patent No. 499,781, dated June 20,1893,
' Application filed Kay 9, 1892. Serial Nd 432,373. (Remodel) To all whom it'may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN DE GROFF,a citif zen of the United States of America, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook, State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Washtubs, of which the following is a description, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, the same forming part of thisrspecification. 1
My invention refers to partitioned wash-' tubs for laundry use and consists, first,in the construction of a metallic frame covering the top of the same, in combination with a drainpipe, the same connected with the waste pipc of the enlarged head, and secondly in the combination of the rear-wall of the tub with the drain-pipe, the same having over-flow pipes connected with overflow-openings partially in said wall and partially in the partition-wall, and finally my invention consists in the construction of the enlarged head of the waste-pipe and its connection for draining the sections of the said tub.
Referring to the drawings-Figure 1 is a top-view of a partitioned WELSIl-tflb- Fig. 2is a rear-elevation of'the same partially in section on line y-y. Fig. 3 is a horizontal sec: tion of the tub on line z-z of Fig.2. Fig. 4 is a transverse section on line w-a: of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 exhibits on enla ged scale and vertical longitudinal section t e waste arrangement. Fig. 6 represeutsin top-view the head of the waste-pipe. Fig. 7 shows a detailinv sectional-view of a fraction of the drain-pipe in connection with the frame, and Fig. 8 is a modified construction of the top-frame of the tub.
The frame A for covering the upper ends of the partitioned tab to protect the same from injury, consists of a strip of suitable metal,- bent on both sides mm down at a right angle terminating with to the inside turned con= cave molded ends a,-a, in opposite direction each to the other, and is the even surface of the frame which covers the rear-wall D of the tub provided with holes c,c, to fit the projecting top-end of screws d,-d, embedded in the materials of the same, and an aperture c, with a downward extending flange f, having external screw-threads g to connect with the threadedlnppenendlmdrtioni gLQf the drain-pipe B. The'same is inclosed in the aforesaid rear-wall behind the partition of the tub and provided below with a flange h, which rests in the recessed bossiof the drainhole It of'the head 0, and the projecting endportion 0 of the drain-pipe-terminates into the waste-pipelof the same, The-upper part of the said drain-pipe bears an aperture '0', with branching overflow-pipesp-p, the end- ,opcnings of which are V shaped, to fit the overflow openings r,-'r, in -the corners partially in the rear-wallD and in the joining partition F, which divides the tub into sections. v v
The head 0 of the waste-pipe is located in the bottom ofthe 'tub,--and made in one piece channels 'u,'- u projecting at right angles ure, in the apex of which is the recessed drainhole 70, to support the flanged drain-pipe, and.
the said head a downwardly projecting exhaust channel '11, connected with the wastepipel'. The channels of the head are provided at ends with plug-holes communicating frame, which receives the plastic mass within the sides mn, so as to appear when finished, the said frame to he slipped over the top-portion of the walls,'instea'.d of flush with the same, and the turned ends a a anchored in the side of the walls, thus preventing the same becoming detached.- In the process of casting the tub the aforesaid screw-bolts d,d, are embedded with the top-ends projecting through the holes c--c of the frame A, for-the purpose, when the mass is settled in the mold and sufficiently hardened, to unscrew the bolts from the emplachd on top of the frame on the rear wall,
each to the other in shape of'a triangularfigthe nuts on it, into the wall of the same, and
bedded nuts. A fitting wooden strip G, is
of metal, inside-hollow and with branching I in line below the same from the'bot-tom 0f"- with both sections of the tub, for draining 0E rials used, with the exception of the metallic ,and by replacing the said screw-bolts, passing through corresponding openings in the lar position, instead 'of concave shaped to the inside turned ends as represented in Fig. 5, and in place of the metallic overflow-pipes 9-11 as shown in the aforementioned figure,
channels, molded in the materials of the tub at an angnlar elevation, leading'fr'om the overflow-openings 73-4, to the-aperture o in the drain-pipe B, can be substituted. I
Having thus described my invention,- I claim *1. In a partitioned wash-tub, the metallic frame A, having concave shaped ends anch'ored into the walls of the tub, said frame provided withholes on its slit-face and an aperture e, with screw-threaded flange the same in combination with drain-pipe B embedded in the rear-wall D of the tnbin front oi the partition-wall of the same,,said drainpipe provided with a screw-threaded topportion 9', flange h, andan perture 0' with ex tending hranehing overflow-pipes 'pp, the same havingv shaped end-openings connecting with overflow-openings r-r partially in the rear-wall and in the partition wall of the tub, substantially as shown and for purpose described.
2. In a 'pa'rtitioned wash-tub, the combination of a metallic frame A, halving concave shaped ends and plbvlded on its surface with holes and an aperture having a screw-thread ed flange; with a perforated and flanged drain-pipe B, the same having" a threaded end-portion and provided with branchin overflow-pipes, having Y shaped ends,- sai drain pi'p'e ar an ed in the rear Wall of the tub in front of the partition-wall, in connection with the enlarged hej'adC of the Waste pipe in the bottom of the tub, said head having projecting channels u-, u,vv"ith lug-holes; branching from an exhaust channel 1) of the head at diverging angles bearing in the apex of the same a recessed drain-hole hand in connection with the renewal! D of the tub and frame A, removable screw-bolts d, d, connecting with fitting ntits, the same em bedded in the said wall; substantially as ill ustrated and for purpose set forth.
. In testimony whereof I have set hereunto my signature in the presence or mo subscribing Witnesses. 1 V V H r JOHN DE GROFF; Attest:
