Description

To all whom it may concern.-
f 'NITED STATES;
PATENT ()FFICE.
HARRIET CARTER, or BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
COMPOSITION OF MATTER'JFOR SAVING FUEL.
SPECIFICATIONforming part of Letters Patent No. 497,627, dated May 16,
A pelication filed February 15, 1893.
Be it known that I, HARRIET CARTER, of
Brooklyn, in the'countyiof Kings and State of New York, have invented a newand useful Improved Composition of Matter for Saving Fuel,of which-the followingisaspecification.
My improved composition of matter con fire clay, dry and powdered, two quarts; fine salt, one-half pint.
i The materials are'mixed thoroughly with warm water, in sufficient quantity to form a plastic mass, then the composition is formed into balls of a convenient sizefor use, and these are baked so as to render them hard and'dry. i .20
In use, any suitable number of the prepared balls are placed on a fresh fire of coalin a stove or range, and lightly covered with coals.
When the fire has burned a short time, after the introduction of the composition balls, the latter will become incandes cent, and add largely to the heat of the fire,
Serial No. 462,486. (No specimens.)
and w-illpreserve their form for a continued use of more than a Week.- When the coal fire needs renewal, the, compositionehallsnare removed, and replaced 'in the manner before stated; they being available for service as fuel savers until they become wasted away.
It has beenfound in practice, that the specitied form for the lumps of the composition will give the best results, as their spherical form preventsfriable disintegration, but they maybe made in slabs, rectangular blocks, or
any, other preferred form, theirsize depending upon the dimensions of the fire in which they are to be-used.
Having thus described my improved fuelsaving composition of matter and its manner chamber .of use, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1 The herein described composition of matter for saving fuel, consisting of hard coal ashes, fine hard coal, white sand, fire clay, and fine salt, mixed with water, as is herein set forth.
= HARRIET CARTER. Witnesses:
