Description
c. JONESY. Combined Coai Hod; Ash Sifier, and Slop Pail. No. 48,020. Q Patented May 30, 1865.
fin/enfor- UNITED STATES PATENT @FFICEO CHAR-LES JONES, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND CHARLES HODGETT, OF SAME PLACE.
COAL-HOD, ASH -SIFTER, AND SLOP-PAIL COMBINED.
, Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 48.020, dated May 30, 1865.
To all} whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES Jonas, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Combination of a Goal-Hod, Ash-Sifter, and Slop-Pail; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a vertical centralsection of my invention shown as an ash -sifter; Fig. 2, a
vertical central section of the same shown as a coal-hod or slop-pail.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
This invention relates to a new and useful combination of a coal-bod, ash-sifter, and a slop-pail, whereby these several articles may be manufactured at a very moderate cost, and a very desirable and convenient article obtained for household use.
I construct a pail, A, of sheet metal, covered with paint or galvanized, in order to prevent oxidation. Galvanized sheet-iron will probably be used for the purpose. The pail I design to have of inverted conical form, similar to those now manufactured, and provided with a bail, B, anda cover, 0. These parts comprise the coal-hod and slop-pail, which are shown in Fig. 2.
D represents a sifter, which may be constructed of perforated sheetmetal and of disk form, as shown in Fig. 1. This sifter is formed with a flange, a, at its upper edge to rest upon the upper edge of the rail A, and an upright, b, is attached to the upper edge of the sifter, said upright passing through a slot, 0, in the cover, Two of these uprights may be used, if desired. They simply form a connection between the cover and sifter to admit of the latter being turned first in one direction and then in the other, by imparting a similar motion to the cover by hand.
In sifting ashes, the latter pass through the sifter into the lower part of the pail, the cinders being retained in the sifter. The cover 0 prevents dust escaping into the room during the sifting operation, and the cover has a handle, E, attached for the convenience of turning it.
The sifter may be readily placed in and re moved from the pail, and the whole may be manufactured at a moderate cost.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent-- The pail A, provided with a cover, 0, in combination with the sifter D, constructed substantially as shown, and connected, when in use, to the cover 0 by an upright passing through the cover, or any equivalent means, all being constructed of sheet metal, and arrangedto form a combined coal-hod, slop-pail, and aslrsifter, as described.
CHARLES JONES.
