Be it known that we, FREDERICK MEYERs, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, and MATTHIAS STOVE- KEN, residing at- IfIoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, citizens of the United States, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hooks and Eyes, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to certain improvements in hooks and eyes, as pointed out in the following specitication and claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings,v in which- Figure l represents a face view of our hook and eye as applied to a garment. Fig. 2 is a section in the plane se x, Fig. 3, showing a rear view of the hook and eye. Fig.. 3 is a longitudinal section in the plane y y, Fig. l. Fig. 4 is a rear view of the hook detached. Fig. 5 is a face View of thelocking-plate for the hook. Fig. 6 is a transverse section in the plane z e', Fig. 5.

In the drawings, the letters A B indicate the two members which constitute our hook and eye. The member A embraces a hook H and a locking-plate I. The hook is formed of wire and it is provided with two penetratingprongs h h, which extend from the neck h of the hook in a direction parallel to each other, Fig. 4, and at a certain distance apart, so as to form shoulders h2 h2 at their junction with the neck h. The locking-plate I is provided with an aperture z', and at one end of said locking-plate is formed a recess t', while at its opposite end is formed a lip Said recess is wide enough to admit the neck h of the hook and it is provided with inclined sides t3, Figs. 5 and 6, which are intended to engage the shoulders h2 h2 of the hook, as shown in Fig. 1. In order to attach the hook to a fabric F, the penetrating-prongs 71, h are passed through a bent portion fof the fabric. Then the inner end of the locking-plate I is slipped under the prongs h h and the outer end of said lockingplate is forced over the hook H, and when the locking-plate has reached this position the hook is drawn out over the outer end of the locking-plate, so that its neck engages the recess t" of the locking-plate and it assumes the position shown in Figs. 1 and 3. When it reaches this position, the lip i2 projects over the ends of the penetrating-prongs h h and the hook is securely locked in position.

The member B embraces the eye E and the locking-plate K. The eye E is formed with two penetrating-prongs e e., which extend in a direction parallel to each other and at some distance apart, Figs. I and 2, and the lockingplate K is provided with an aperture 7o, and 6o at one end of the saine is formed a hook lo', while its opposite end is provided with a lip 7a2. In order to attach the eye E to the fabric F, the penetrating-prongs e e are passed through a bent port-ionf of said fabric. Then the inner end of the locking-plate is slipped under the penetrating-prongs e e and the hook 7c is depressed into the eye E, so that when the eye is drawn forward it engages the hook Je of the locking-plate and it assumes the 7o position shown in Figs. l and 2. When it reaches this position, the lip 7a2 projects over the ends of the penetrating-prongs e e and the eye is securely locked in position.

In order to detach the hook or the eye, the movements above described are simply reveised- -tl1at is to say, the hook is forced back, so that thelocking-plate can be slipped out over its front end, or the eye is forced back, so that it becomes disengaged from the hook so 7c', and then the locking-plates can be taken out.

I/Vhat we claim as ne\v,and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

I. A hook and eye composed of the members A B, the member yA heilig composed of a hook having two penetrating-prongs and of a locking-plate having an opening for the fabric and a recess adapted to engage the neck of the hook, andthe member B being composed 9o of an eye having two penetrating-prongs and of a locking-plate having an Opening for the fabric and a hook adapted to engage the eye, substantially as described.

2. The hook provided with two penetratingprongs and shoulders at the junctions of the prongs with the neck of the hook, in combination with a locking-plate having a recess adapted to engage the neck of the hook and an opening for the fabric to which the hook Io: is to be attached, substantially as described.

3. A hook provided with two penetratingprongs and shoulders at the junctions of theV prongs with thevnecl; of the hook, in combination with alocking-plate having a recess adapted to engage the neck of the hook, a 5 point-protecting lip, and an opening for the fabric to which the hook is to be attached, substantially as described. 4. An eye provided with two penetratingprongs extending parallel to each other and at a small distance apart, in combination with a locking-plate provided with a hook adapted to engage the eye and with an opening for the fabric to which the eye is to be attached, substantially as described.
