M. B. DOOLEY. LIFTING JACK.
No. 484,655. Patented 001;. 18, 1892.
q/vmow gmve/ntoz UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MASON B. DOOLEY, OF DECATUR, MISSOURI.
LlFTlNG-JACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 484,65 5, dated October 18, 1892.
Application filed April 18, 1892. Serial No. 429,019. (No model.)
T0 at whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MAsoN B. DOOLEY, of Decatur, in the county of Cole and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lifting-Jacks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in lifting-jacks; and it consists in the novel features of construction, which will be fully described hereinafter and more particularly referred to in the claim.
The object of my invention is to provide an improved means of securing the lifting-lever in the desired adjustment on its standard.
The accompanying drawing is a perspective view of my improved jack.
A represents the standard, which projects from base A, and secured to the upper end of the standard are the projecting bearings B, in which is pivoted the lifting-lever C. The handle end of this lever is provided with a vertical recess D, as shown, and extending across the sameis the horizontal pin E. The standard is provided with a slot F near its lower end, and pivoted at its lower end in this slot is the toothed or notched curvedarm G. The said arm projects through the recess D in the handle and the notches on the edge thereof engage the pin E, and by this means the lever is held in the desired vertical adjustment. The top face of the outer end of the lever is recessed, as shown, so as to afford it a secure hold on the wagonaxle or other object being elevated.
A lifting-jack thus constructed is very cheap and simple, and the parts being few, it is not liable to get out of order.
Having thus described my invention, I claim In a 1ifting-jack,the combination of abase,a standard, a slotted lever fulcru med to the upper end of the standard,a stop extendingacross the forward portion of the slot of said lever, and a curved arm having notches on its concave side, which arm is pivoted to the stand ard at its lower end and which at its upper end projects through the slot in the lever, where its notches engage said stop when the arm is pushed inward against the latter, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof Iaffix my signaturein presence of two witnesses.
MASON B. DOOLEY.
