D. LEVY. SHUTTER WORKER.
No. 470,349. Patented Mar. 8, 1892.
A UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DAVID LEVY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SHUTTER- WORKER.
SPECIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 470,349, dated March 8, 1892.
Application filed December 23, 1891- Serial No. {15,995- (No model.) i
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID LEVY, of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Shutter-Workers; and I do hereby declare I that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The object of my invention is to produce an improved device for opening and closing shutters which shall be simple and inexpensive in construction and efiective in opera tion, holding the shutter firmly in its open position.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a plan'view of my improved shutter-worker with a portion in section to illustrate a detail of construction, and indicating also, partly in section, a portion of a shutter and a windowcasing; and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.
The shutterA is represented as-of the kind generally employed for warehouses, but may be of any form, and is hinged to the side B of the window-casing. To the bottom 0 of the window-casing I attix a plate or casting D, which is suitably formed to support the latch E, the latter being formed, preferably, with a cam-nose e, and being provided with a limiting-pin e, which enters a slot or recess d in the casting D. A rod F is pivoted upon said plate and is pivotally connected to a lever G, which in turn is pivotally connected, as by a pin a, to the shutter A, or to a plate a, secured thereto, and may be provided with toward the hinge of the shutter.
a handle g. A projecting lug f is formed upon or secured to the rod F in such position as to stand in the path of and form a stop for the lever G when the shutter is opened to its full extent, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1.
In applying the device the plate D may be first secured to the casing C in a convenient position, preferably about six inches from the side of the window, the rod and lever being properly connected thereto. The position of the plate a being determined and the plate being then fixed in position, the lever may be connected to the plate by the pin a.
The operation of the device is simple. If the shutter is closed and it is desired to open the same, the handle g is grasped and moved The latter will be thrown open until the lever G strikes the stop f. At the same time the latch E will engage the rod F and the shutter will be firmly held in position.
I claim as my invention- The herein-described shutter-worker, comprising a plate adapted to be fixed to the window-casing and bearing a latch, a lever adapted to be pivotally connected to the shutter, and a rod pivotally connected to said plate-and to said lever and bearing a stop for the lever and adapted to be engaged by said latch, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
DAVID LEVY.
