J. V. MOORE. TAG FOR CLOTH BOARDS.
No. 478,938. Patented July 12, 1892.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN V. MOORE, OF HIAWATHA, KANSAS.
TAG FOR'CLOTH-BOARDS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 478,938, dated July 12, 1892.
Application filed August 26, 1891. Serial No- 403,796. (No model.)
T (13% whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN V. MOORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hiawatha, in the county of Brown and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ornamental Marking and Record Plates, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is intended for use in connection with that class of dry goods which are commonly rolled around flat boards or plates.
The object of the invention is to dispense with the hanging tag heretofore employed for containing information as to the contents of the package and to furnish in lieu thereof a simple and inexpensive device, a portion of which is adapted to receive a label, as hereinafter described.
The device also serves to hide the unsightly edge of the board or core upon which the goods are rolled and increases the attractiveness of the package by reason of its forming a guide for the edge of the goods, as well as preventing same from overhanging the end of the board.
My invention will be readily understood by referring to the accompanying drawings,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device. Fig. 2 shows thedevice as applied to a bolt of dry goods.
My marking and record plate (designated by the letter A) consists of a flat sheet of metal, celluloid, or other suitable material having an enlarged center a and side projections 1) b the latter provided with perforations 0 o to receive fastening-pins d d (see Fig. 2) and the former adapted to receive a label or covering e, from which information relative to the contents of the package may be readily ascertained without disturbing the surrounding goods. The label-holding portion of the plate A, being made much wider than the core-board of a dry-goods package, serves to hold the adjacent edge of the goods in a straight line and effectually prevents same from overhanging the end of the board.
If preferred, the device may be made of wood, paper, or other cheap material and be painted or covered with any desired material.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a device for marking goods, substantially as described, a plate adapted to be attached to the bolt-board of the goods, said plate having an extended central portion to form guides for the goods, as well as to receive marks designating the price and quantity of goods in the roll, and perforated arms projecting from the central portion, the width and projection of the arms corresponding with the thickness and width of the board, and pins for securing the plate to the board, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affiX my signature in 65 presence of two witnesses.
JOHN V. MOORE.
