Description
(No Model.) A. MAYER.
SELF CLOSING FAUCET.
No. 478,199. Patented July 5, 1892.
NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANTON MAYER, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO OF SAME PLACE.
RUDOLPH J. MEISER,
SELF-CLOSAING FAUCET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patents No. 478,199, dated July 5, 1892.
Application filed August, 28, 1891.
To all whom it may concrn:
Be it known that I, ANTON MAYER, a. citi-` zen of the United States, residing at Cncinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and .use-
ful Improvement in `Self-Closing Faucets, of which the following is a specification.
The object of myinvention is to provide a simple, effective, and durable self-closing o faucet for beer-packages and analogous uses, to provide a faucet which When closed will not retain any portion of the contents of the package, and to provide protection for the working parts of the faucet While it is being 1-3 driven into the package.
My invention consists in the Construction and arrangement of paris hereinafter more specifically pointed out and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal :c View, partly in section, ot' one of my improved faucets. Fig. 2 is an enlarged View partly in section, showing the valve and the Valveguard. Fig. 3 is a detail showing the rcduced portion of the valve-sten over which the j aws of the lever take.
A is the shell or casing of the faucet, and a the discharge-opening.
B is the Valve-stem, carrying at one end a Valve C, preferably of conical shape, adapted to take into a suitable seat in the ingress end of the fancet. A nut b serves to keep the valve from slippingoff the valve-stem.
The shell of the faucet is prolonged beyond the discharge-opening, and in the extended 5 portion is a chamber a', to which access may be had by means of a screw-cep (1 The outer end of the valve-stem takes through a suitable aperture a in the shell of the fancet into a socket in the screW-cap a The valve-stem 40 is reduced at b to receive the jaws d of -a lever D, fulcrumed at 61 E is an elastic packing, F awasher, prefer- Serial No. 403,939. (No model.)
ably m et'allic, and G a spring coiled about the valve-stem and pressing it outwardly. The jaws of the actnating-lever aftord a convenient hearing for the outer end of the spring.
H is a guard-cap taking over the nut on the end of the valve-stem and moving with the valve. This guardsis so arranged that when the valve is closed the inner end of the guard abuts against the end of the fancet and the faucet may be driven without danger of injury to any of the Working parts.
The valve being at the inner end ot' the faucet, the faucet drains itself through its en- 5 5 tire length, and none of the contents ot' the package are retained in the faucet to their injury when not in use.
I claim as my invention- 1. The combination, in a faucet, of avalvestern, a valve seated in the inner end of the faucet-casing, and a guard-cap for the Valvestem, carried by the stern' and seating against the inner end of the faucet-casingsubstantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. The combinati'on, in a faucet, of a Valvestem, a valve seated in the inner end of the faucet casing, a spring adapted .to press against the valve stern outwardly, a lever adapted to actuate the valve -sten, and a gnard-cap taking over the inner end of the valvc-sten and. carried thereby, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3.' The conbination, in a faucet, ot the Valvestem B, the valve C, the chamber a', the spring 7 5 G, thelever D, the screw-cap a and the guardcap H, taking over the inner end ot' the valvestem and carried thereby, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
ANTON MAYER. WVitnesses:
ALBERT. W. LEONARD, J AMES N. RAMSEY.
