D E R Rl C K SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 474,142, dated May 3,1892.
Application filed February l, 1892. Serial No. 419,967. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUSTUS MYERS, of' the city of Toronto, in the county of York, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented a certain new and Improved Derrick, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the invention is to arrange a derrick by which stone orotherheavy obj ects may be moved from one point to another practically Without manual labor; and it consists in the peculiar construction, arrangement, and combinations of parts hereinafter more particularly described, and then definitely claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of my improved derrick. Fig. 2 is a detail of the winding-drum. Fig. 3 is a detail of a step forming the lower half of the mast-journal- Fig. 4 is a detail of the bottom of the mast.
In the drawings like letters of referenceindicate corresponding parts in each figure.
In the drawings, A represents the mast of the derrick, the bottom of which rests in and is fixed to the shoe B. On each side of the shoe B, I form a flange O, to which flange a cross-timber D is securely fastened. A hub E is formed on and projects from the shoe B. (See Fig. 4.) This hub Eis made to fit into an annular recess made in the projection F, formed on the step G, which rests on and is securely bolted to a suitable foundation. A steel washer H is fitted into the recess formed in the projection F and supports the hub E.
I is a iianged ring securely bolted to the timbers D and braced to the mast A by the diagonal stays J. A boom K ts into the shoe B in the usual Way. The top of the mast A is properly stayed in the usual manner. Around the ring I, I carry a rope L, or the said rope may be divided into two and one end of each fastened to the ring I.
M N are rope-drums, one end of the rope L being attached to the drum M and the other end of the said rope to the drum N. Between the drums M and N,I place a gear-Wheel O, fixed to the shaft P, on which the drums M The gearwheel O and N revolve freely.

These drums are put into motion by being pressed against the face of the gear-wheel O, and are so arranged that only one drum at a time shall be in contact with the said gear-wheel. This is accomplished by the rocking of the shaft R, which is connected by levers, as indicated, to a camblock S, located one behind each drum. This construction is illustrated in Fig. 2; but as I do not claim anything new in the rope-drum it will not be necessary to describe it further in detail. From this description it will be seen that the mast A may be revolved in either direction by the action of the rope L, and that a heavy object upon the boom K may be moved from one point to another without any manual labor.
I Vhat I claim as my invention isl. In a derrick, a shoe B, having a mast A connected thereto and provided with iianges C O and hub E, in combination with crossbars D D, connected to said flanges C O, a flanged ringI, connected to said crossbars D D, a step G, arranged to support the mast and having a recessed projection F, forming a bearing for said hub E, and suitable mechanism for rotating said fianged ring, substantially as described.
2. In a derrick, a mast A, having the boom K connected thereto, a shoe B, connected to the bottom end of said mast A and provided with fianges O O, a hub E, projecting from said shoe B, cross-bars D D, connected to said flanges C C, a flanged ring I, rigidly connected to said cross-bars, stays J J, connecting said anged ring with said mast, and a step G, arranged to support said mast and having a recessed projection F adapted to receive the hub E and form a bearing for the same, in combination with suitable gearing arranged to revolve said flanged ring I, substantially as described.
