GLOVE.
Patented Sept. 29, 1891.

SAMUEL REGINALD CONWVAY AND JOHN SAMUEL \VHITE, OF LONDON, ENGLAND.
G L O V E SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 460,463, dated September 29, 1891. Application filed June 12, 1891. Serial No. 396,009- (No model.) Patented in England January 5, 1891, N0. 203.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, SAMUEL REGINALD CONWAY and JOHN SAMUEL WHITE, subjects of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at 39 lVood Street, Oheapside, London, England, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Gloves, (for which we have obtained a patent in Great Britain, No. 203, dated January 5, 1891,) of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.
This invention has for its object to provide a new and improved glove wherein the top or wrist portion is strengthened to prevent it from tearing when pulling on the glove. To accomplish this object our invention involves the features of construction and the combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan View of a glove constructed in accordance with our invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the Wrist portion in an open position, and Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the glove partially turned inside out to more clearly exhibit the strengthening-section at the front of the wrist portion.
In order to enable those skilled in the art to make and use our invention We will now describe the same in detail, referring to the drawings, wherein The numeral 1 indicates a glove-body and 2 a stout strengthening-section attached to the top of the glove on the inside of the wrist portion. This strengthening-section extends to and terminates a short distance below the bottom 3 of the slit 4, where it is secured by a line of stitches running across the palm portion of the glove, and preferably it is of a width sufficient to extend from the side seam 5 to the crease 6 of the glove. The strengthening-section is attached by the stitches which form the side seam 5 and by the By extending the strengthening-section 2 across the palm of the glove, below the bottom 3 of the slit 4, and stitching the inner end portion of the said section across the palm portion in juxtaposition to the bottom of the slit the glove is made strong and substantial at its weakest portion, while such section 2 also strengthens the wrist portion of the glove and prevents it from tearing when pulling on the glove.
The invention is particularly useful in the manufacture of fine kid gloves which are not lined throughout. By terminating the strengthening-section 2 at a point below but in juxtaposition to the bottom of the slit 4 and stitching such section to the glove across the palm portion from the crease G to the thumb-piece this section 2 fulfills all the conditions required to strengthen the glove at the inside of the wrist portion, while the fingers, back portion of the body, and the palm portion may be left unlined the same as in fine kid gloves in ordinary use.
. Having thus described our invention, what we claim is 1. A glove having a slit and a strengthening-section arranged on the inside of its wrist portion and terminating below the bottom'of the slit and stitched to the glove across the palmportion thereof in juxtaposition to the
