C. B. UOON. OVEN BQ TTOM FOR STOVES 0R RANGES.
Patented Dec. 29. 1891.
lnzru r tor. m 9. QM V NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES B. COON, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
OVEN-BOTTOM FOR STOVES OR RANGES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 466,070, dated December 29, 1891.
Application filed July 25, 1891- Serial No. 400,748. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES E. Coon, of Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oven-Bottoms for Stoves or Ranges; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improved removable oven-bottom for stoves or ranges; and it consists in certain features of construction and in combination of parts hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
An oven-bottom of a stove or range is likely to become warped or cracked by the heat and thus rendered unfit for use. Meanwhile the greater part of the stove or range may remain in good condition, and such parts as are shortlived, except the oven-bottom, are usually arranged so that they can be easily renewed; but to remove an oven-bottom heretofore the stove or range had to be taken apart, and to avoid such disaster in the house the stove was usually sent to a repair-shop, thus causing much trouble, delay, and expense.
I11 view of the foregoing I have devised a removable oven-bottom, illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a view in perspective showing the portion of the interior of an oven having my improved bottom. Fig. 2 is an elevation in transverse section. Fig. 3 is an end elevation.
A represents a removable oven-bottom, and B B the side walls of the oven, and B the rear wall thereof. The side walls and rear walls are provided, respectively, with a ledge 17 for member A to rest on, and preferably with grooves 19, adapted to receive with an easy fit the edges of the bottom plate A. The front edge of memberA has attached a re-enforcin g vertical plate a, that fits against the exterior of the stove or range, and is therefore preferably made ornamental by plating or otherwise. Plate CL so re-enforces the front edge of plate A as to prevent thelatter from warping.
C C Care locking-bars comprising thin fiat bars of metal pivoted to depending links 0, the latter in turn being pivoted to the respect ive walls of the oven, as shown. \Vhen the links are approximately in a vertical position, members C are held thereby firmly-down upon the oven-bottom, thereby holding the latter firmly upon the supporting-ledges. By moving a bar C endwise to more or less incline the link the bar is thereby elevated, leaving the oven-bottom loose, so that it can be drawn out and removed, and in such position of'the locking-bars and link a new oven-bottom can be inserted, whereupon bars C are returned to their normal position, bearing upon the oven-bottom to prevent the latter from warpmg.
The oven-bottom may be of cast or wrought metal, and in either case it can be renewed in a few moments and at a trifling cost.
The oven-bottom can be removed for cleaning the stove, and for such purpose is found a very great convenience.
What I claim is- 1. A removable oven -bottom adapted to ,slide into and out of the oven-ledges for the oven-bottom to rest on and preferably grooved for engaging the edges thereof, together with movable locking devices for holding the bottom upon the supporting-ledges, substantially as set forth,
2. A removable oven-bottom adapted to slide into and out of the oven on supporting ledges, and locking-bars pivoted to depending links, substantially as indicated, for holding the bottom upon the supporting-ledges, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I sign this specification, in the presence of two witnesses, this 9th day of July, 1891.
CHARLES E. COON.
