HOMER T. \VILSON, OF NEW ALBANY, INDIANA.
ROLLER-TABLET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 466,067, dated December 29, 1891.
Application filed September 16 1891. Serial No. 405,894. (No model.) I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HOMER T. WILSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Albany, in the county of Floyd and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Roller-Tablet, of which the following is aspecification.
This invention relates to roller-tablets; and it has for its object to provide a suitable frame having rollers upon which roll-paper may be kept in a convenient shape for use, the said frame being also provided with a writing-surface and with means for making manifold copies, with a receiving-roller upon which one of the strips may be wound, with cutters or devices to assist in neatly severing the strips of paper, and with a printing-roller for impressing upon one of the strips such headings or advertising-cards as may be desired.
The invention consists in the improved construction, arrangement, and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective View of a roller-tablet constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional View of the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a vertical transverse sectionalview taken on the line 4 4 in Fig. 2.
Like numerals of reference indicate like parts in all the figures.
The frame of my improved device, which is designated by 1, is provided near its ends with suitablebearings, in which are mounted the shafts 2 and 3, carrying rollers 4 and 5. The said shafts may be arranged in such a manner as to enable them to be readily removed from the frame for the purpose of and enabling the paper to be conveniently mounted upon or removed from the rollers, as will be required, and the said shafts are provided with handles 6, by means of which they may be conveniently manipulated 7 designates an auxiliary frame, which is suitably hinged to' the main frame 1, and which is provided with bearings for the shafts 8 and 9 of the printing-roller 10 and the inking-roller 11 Suitably journaled in the sides of the main frame 1 is the shaft 12 of a supporting-roller 13, which is arranged directly below the printing-roller, so as to support the strip of rollpaper passing under the latter. The said printing-roller is to be provided with a rubber type-face, as 14, and it may also be provided with annular elastic bands 15, bearing against the ends of the inking-roller, for the purpose of transmitting rotary motion to the latter.
Suitably secured between the sides of the frame below the printing-roller is a plate or tablet 16, which may be suitably padded to form a writing-surface. At the sides or edges of the tablet 16 are mounted the spring-actuated leaves or holders 17, normally clamped upon said tablet by the outwardly-pressing leaf-springs 17 and which are adapted to hold in position one or more sheets of carbon-paper for the purpose of making such copies as may be desired. At one end of the tablet 16 is arranged a transverse metallic strip 18, which is secured at its ends to the sides of the frame or casing 1, said metallic strip forming a knife or cutter to enable the strips of paper to be readily severed. A metallic strip, as 19, may also be arranged at one end of the frame or casing directly over the roller 4.
In practice it is intended to wind three separate strips of paper upon the roller 5, said strips being passed between the sheets of carbon-paper and under the strips 18 and 19. The bottom strip is to be Wound upon the roller t, where it is kept to form a record of orders and the like. The uppermost strip, which receives the imprint of the printingroller, is torn up and furnishes a memorandum, which is handed to the customer, the intermediate strip being used for filling the orders.
The operation and advantages of this invention will be readily understood from the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawings hereto annexed.
My improved roller-tablet is exceedingly simple in construction, and when used for taking orders furnishes a complete and trustworthy record. Springs, as 20, may be arranged to bear lightly against the ends of the shaft of the inking-roller working in the slots 21 for the purpose of preventing the latter from rotating too freely. The several strips of roll paper are held securely by means of the strip 18 while being written upon, and new sheets of carbon-paper maybe readily placed in the machine when required.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States 1. The combination of the main frame, the shafts journaled in the same and having rollers mounted thereon, the hinged auxiliary frame having the printing and inking rollers, and a supporting-roller journaled in the main frame below the printing-roller, substantially as and for the'purpose set forth.
2. The combination of the frame or easing, the rollers journaled in the same, a supporting plate or tablet, a transverse knife or cutter arranged at the front end of the same, the springactuated leaves or holders arranged at the edges of the supporting-disk, and the hinged auxiliary frame having the printing and inking rollers, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. The combination, with the frame or casing having the rollers, and the supporting plate or tablet, and spring-actuated leaves or holders for the mounting of sheets of carbonpaper upon the said tablet, of the hinged frame having the inking and printing rollers, the bands upon the latter bearing against the face of the inking-roller, and the supportingroller mounted in the main frame, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing-as my own I have hereto afiixed my signature in presence of two witnesses,
' HOMER '1. WILSON.
